The Secret Life Of Pets was a runaway success when it came out three years ago, with the cartoon raking in £688million worldwide.
And, with the addition of Tiffany Haddish and Harrison Ford, the sequel – aptly titled The Secret Life Of Pets 2 – can easily surpass it.
The story starts with Max (Patton Oswalt, replacing Louis C.K.) and Duke (Eric Stonestreet) having to juggle their normal dog duties with taking care of owner Katie’s new baby, little Liam. We know from the first movie how well Max deals with change…
But instead of being aloof, he goes the complete other way, sensing danger at every step.
A dog’s version of helicopter parenting, and we’re living for it.
It takes a trip out to a farm, and a meeting with sheepdog Rooster – voiced by Harrison Ford who manages to radiate cool from his husky drawl alone – to eventually calm Max down just a little and have some fun.
If you’re getting some serious Toy Story vibes, you’re not alone.
But while the family are away, chaos unsurprisingly ensues back home.
We see Gidget (Jenny Slate) head out on a rescue mission for a stuffed toy Max entrusts her with before leaving, which accidentally ends up in a houseful of cats.
Cue some lessons from Chloe (Lake Bell) in how exactly to act like a cat…
While all this is going on, Snowball (Chris Rock) attempts to impress scene-stealing newbie Daisy (Tiffany Haddish), and help her rescue a tiger from an evil circus.
The addition of Tiffany and Harrison sparked life in the sequel, giving it a huge edge and a lot of sass over the first film – and we’re living for sassy Daisy.
But the downside of having so many characters is that all the storylines get a little muddled. It’s already three entire plots rolled into one, and by the time the tiger comes to play, you’re a little baffled about which pet is on what mission and with who.

Part of what made the first instalment so great is seeing all the pets interact with each other and overcome their hurdles together – but the sequel ends up splintered into separate timelines and doesn’t leave much time for the pets to come together.
Despite the outlandish plot (or three), the jokes were on point and laughs were all there, with some genuinely heart stopping moments in between. And we’re desperate for Daisy and Snowball to get their own sequel.
The Secret Life Of Pets is in cinemas now.
