Harry Redknapp has backed Frank Lampard to take over at Celtic, saying it would be interesting to see his nephew in competition with Steven Gerrard at Rangers.
Lampard was sacked as Chelsea manager on Monday after 18 months in charge at Stamford Bridge, with Thomas Tuchel set to be announced as his replacement imminently.
It has been a rollercoaster ride in management for Lampard so far, after a year at Derby County followed by a tumultuous time in west London, and Redknapp has backed him to go from the frying pan into the fire and take the Celtic job.
Neil Lennon is currently in charge of the Bhoys, but is not expected to last much longer with the Scottish Premiership champions 23 points behind Rangers in this season’s title race.
Lampard’s old England teammate and Liverpool rival, Steven Gerrard, is in charge of Rangers and Redknapp would be intrigued to see the two battle it out north of the border.
However, he admits that a move to Scotland, especially one immediately after leaving Chelsea, may not be what Lampard is looking for.
‘That’s certainly something that would interest any manager. It’s a great football club to come and manage, that’s for sure,’ Redknapp told the Daily Record.

‘Neil Lennon is still there so I wouldn’t want to talk too much about someone else taking his job but obviously it would be interesting to see Frank in direct opposition to Steven Gerrard.
‘I don’t know whether, if the Celtic job came up, it would be something that would interest Frank. Obviously Neil Lennon is still in charge and I wouldn’t want to see him lose his job.
‘Would Frank want to jump straight back in if it did become available? I wouldn’t know. But you could certainly see the appeal.’
Lampard leaves Chelsea ninth in the Premier League after just two wins in their last eight league matches and a title challenge looking extremely unlikely this season.
Having spent over £220m in the summer and both performances and results not reflecting that outlay, Lampard suffered the consequences, despite his status as a club legend.
