While Channel 4’s The Greatest Snowman made a delightfully festive debut on Friday night, several viewers ended up sorely disappointed after expecting to watch Hugh Jackman’s 2017 film The Greatest Showman.
The one-off special, presented by comedian Sue Perkins, saw reality star Dani Dyer, actor Johnny Vegas, TV host Cherry Healey, former Great British Bake Off contestant Liam Charles and interior designer Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen compete against one another to create the perfect snow sculpture.
While the programme’s title intrigued some, others were getting ready to put their feet up and watch the critically acclaimed musical drama starring Hugh, Zac Efron, and Zendaya…. or so they thought.
One confused viewer wrote: ‘We got excited to see The Greatest Showman on tonight, turned over to find its #thegreatestsnowman. Very disappointing.’
Another agreed, saying: ‘When you get excited thinking the TV guide says the greatest showman but it actually says the greatest snowman #channel4.’
Despite the initial confusion, fans branded the show an ‘absolute treat’ which helped get them in the Christmas spirit.
The show’s official synopsis read: ‘With thousands of tonnes of snow and giant blocks of crystal-clear ice at their disposal, the celebrities will go head to head across three tough rounds that will test both their brain and brawn.
‘Judged by experts, all will risk chilblains as they attempt to carve and construct incredible structures made from snow and ice.
‘The competition will culminate in the ultimate snowy challenge where the famous faces will use all they have learned in each round to attempt to construct The Greatest Snowman.’

Johnny and Dani also impressed the judges with a cute little dome that featured personalised stocking inside with their names on.
