Britain’s Got Talent has been known to pull on the nation’s heartstrings with tear-jerking auditions, and this year is no different.
In the premiere of series 15 tonight, two sisters, aged three and four years old, surprised their dad and invited him to perform on stage, with presenter Declan Donnelly experiencing a particularly emotional reaction.
The adorable girls, Cali and Savannah, already had their dad tearing up when they arrived to introduce themselves, with his reaction escalating quickly when they revealed why they were there.
‘What are we here for?’ a cooing Amanda Holden asked, to which Cali replied: ‘To surprise Dad.’
Their grandma, Tracey, who had walked them on stage holding hands, explained: ‘Well, Nick doesn’t know anything about it, and we’re surprising him because we want him to come and sing, because he sings a lovely song for the girls.’
Cue the tears.
Nick was persuaded to join his family on stage, with Ant McPartlin and Dec urging him on from the side.
‘He said he’d never do it, so we had to do it for him,’ Tracey explained, as Nick stated how shocked he was to be on stage.
Emotions were heightened even further when Nick explained how he’d lost his confidence in singing over the years.
‘I tend to do it at home in the shower,’ he said.
As he walked on stage ready for his surprise performance, he began by explaining: ‘It’s a song I feel quite attached to, so I sing it around the house, so hopefully I’ll keep the nerves and the crying away whilst I sing.’
While Nick may have managed to just about hold back the tears, the rest of us weren’t as able – especially Dec, who got quite teary backstage.
Clearly shaking with nerves by the end of his song, Nick’s performance didn’t leave a dry eye in the room, or at home.
Dec was left entirely speechless, with Ant saying: ‘That was wonderful oh!’
‘I’m fine, yeah I’m fine,’ Dec jokingly added.

‘That was so sweet,’ Simon Cowell said as he began the judges’ comments, before Nick, unsurprisingly, walked off to four yesses.
Alesha Dixon added that it was such a ‘nice surprise’, with David Walliams saying how ‘moving’ the performance was and how it hit him emotionally.
‘Me and Alesha are in bits,’ Amanda added, as were the rest of us.
