Kate Garraway is said to be ‘heartbroken’ while keeping watch over her husband Derek Draper in hospital as her family ‘rallies around’ each other.
Earlier this month, it was reported that former lobbyist Derek, 56, had suffered a ‘huge heart attack’ and was ‘fighting for his life’.
Good Morning Britain star Kate, 56, has taken indefinite leave from the ITV show since, with her colleagues sharing heartfelt messages of support for her in her absence.
People across the nation have expressed concern for the TV star’s husband and the family ever since his health took a turn for the worse in March 2020, when he was hospitalised after contracting Covid-19.
Derek became Britain’s longest-suffering coronavirus victim, spending 13 months in hospital and going into a coma, with the virus causing various health issues including liver damage and kidney failure.
In a new update, it’s been said that it’s a ‘heartbreaking’ time for Kate as she remains at her husband’s side.

‘It’s been a heartbreaking time for Kate and, of course, poor Derek,’ a source told The Sun.
‘Sadly, his condition remains much the same.
‘The children are aware of the situation and have been by their dad’s bedside as much as possible.
‘The whole family is rallying around and trying to stay strong for one another. At Christmas time, this is especially devastating.’
Kate has two children with Derek – Darcey, 17, and Billy, 14 – and the couple have been married since 2005.
It was previously reported that the GMB presenter was trying to ‘manage’ her children’s ‘expectations of a family Christmas’, given Derek’s condition in hospital.
After the news emerged of Derek’s hospitalisation, fellow broadcaster Charlotte Hawkins said on the ITV programme: ‘We wanted to start with an update. You have seen that Derek, Kate’s husband, is sadly very poorly at the moment.
