Bobby Brazier’s tribute to Jade Goody on Strictly Come Dancing, left Sky Sports presenter Jo Wilson feeling ‘triggered’.
In the most recent series of the BBC show, Bobby performed an emotional routine to Maxwell’s This Woman’s Work.
During the contemporary dance with professional partner Dianne Buswell, who played a mother figure, he expressed through movement some of the grief he’s felt. At the end of the song, Bobby, 20, was standing alone, watching a shadow of his younger self in a tent playing alone.
The showcase resonated with viewers and led to tears from many, and this included an emotional Jo.
It was naturally particularly hard-hitting as Jo was diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer in 2022.
Jo who is mother to three-year-old daughter Mabel with husband Dan felt ’emotional’ and ensured she showed her family extra affection.
‘I hugged Mabel tightly that night and it did feel triggering,’ she recalled to OK!
‘Mabel was my whole motivation for surviving, to be there for her growing up. No child should lose their mum so young.’
Bobby was aged five when Goody died in 2009 at the age of 27 after being diagnosed with cervical cancer, and raised by dad Jeff Brazier. Jo struggles to find ‘the words for what that little boy went through’.
In the VT played ahead of his special performance, Bobby, who became a finalist, said that he saw his mum as a ‘superhero’ and shared his wish: ‘I’d love to spend a day with her to see where I got my smile.’
Jo, 39, is now approaching her first anniversary of being cancer-free, and although she no longer takes cancer medication, she has three monthly smears and scans every six months.
She plans to keep talking about her story for an honourable reason.

The NHS is sending more appointment reminders to drive up the number of women who attend cervical screening. Currently a third of women do not take up their offer. The health body also expanding self-sampling, which enables women to carry out cervical screening in their own homes.
‘I don’t want anyone else to go through this and if just one woman books an overdue smear test after reading it, then that’s what matters.’
