An adorable video of Beyonce and Jay Z in Japan has sparked a pretty mad fan theory about how they could possibly be moving across the globe.
The couple, who celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary last month, made a surprise trip to Japan in March for the release of her new album, Act ii: Cowboy Carter.
While details of their activities were kept on the down low, a new video posted by the star, which you can watch here, shared one particularly sweet moment.
Posting a short reel to her Instagram account set to her song, ll MOST WANTED – a collaboration with Miley Cyrus, Beyonce, 42, shared a curation of images of her and the 54-year-old music producer’s time in the country, including going to dinner, riding on public transport and performing a dance with two traditional Japanese artists also known as Geishas.
In the clip, the couple can be seen with their shoes off—a Japanese custom and sign of respect—as they stand beside the two women who appear to be teaching them a traditional Japanese dance.
Beyonce can be seen grinning ear to ear while Jay Z appears to be intently following the Geisha’s movements.
A clip of the moment was shared on X, and while many fans gushed over how cute the couple are, others couldn’t help but wonder if there was a deeper meaning to the star’s trip. Fan account @beyoncegarden, shared the clip writing: ‘beyoncé & jay-z are definitely moving to Japan LMAOOO ICONIC [sic]”. They added; “THEY’RE SO FCKING CUTE I LOVE THIS’.
Many fans agreed, @Germanott4Paul, adding: ‘Bey and Jay moving to Japan? That’s lit! Who wouldn’t wanna live in the land of sushi and sumo?’
@ra_torrence also weighed in on the theory, referencing a comment made by psychic medium and Youtuber, Sloan Bella, writing: ‘It’s so funny Sloan Bella said Jay Z and Beyoncé would be moving out the country.’
Commenting on the star’s Instagram post, @fowlerfowls said: ‘Bey is really not trying to coming back to America :sob: look what yall have done!’ While @ghira._ quipped ‘she did say “my unamerican life”…’ referencing the star’s 2022 song I’m That Girl from her album, Renaissance.
Elsewhere, @89Mightyone said: ‘I WOULD NOT blame them if they ever did!! Tina Turner became a Swiss citizen and stayed there until she passed away last year!’
While the couple has yet to confirm or deny any possibility of a move to Japan, their visit was simply to promote the singer’s eighth studio album.
Vulture reported that Sony Music Japan announced the trip just hours before a special meet-and-greet with 150 fans at Tower Records.

Following the video, Beyonce made a second caption-less post with photos from their trip, posing in an eye-catching double denim look. The outfit consisted of a sheer mesh top, denim shorts, thigh-high boots, and a fur-trimmed denim coat.
A black bolo tie and a leather belt topped off Beyonce’s look.
The singer’s new album, Cowboy Carter, was released less than one month ago and quickly earned the number one spot on the Billboard 200 chart.
Variety revealed soon after that the top charting slot meant the album had had the biggest sales for an album in 2024 so far and became the star’s biggest streaming week in her catalogue’s history.
