John Terry admits he is ‘gutted’ by Mauricio Pochettino’s shock departure from Chelsea.
It was confirmed on Tuesday evening that Pochettino had mutually agreed to leave Stamford Bridge following a mixed season.
Chelsea were on course for a mid-table finish for much of the campaign but enjoyed a fine run at the end of the season to climb to sixth and qualify for Europe.
Pochettino was expected to continue in the job following Chelsea’s encouraging run of form but agreed to move on, leaving the Blues to search for their fifth manager since Todd Boehly took over in May 2022.
Former Chelsea captain Terry admits he is ‘gutted’ to see the Argentine leave and hopes the club’s transfer activity is put on hold until the new manager is in place.
Chelsea will now begin their search for Pochettino’s replacement and are admirers of Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna, Brentford manager Thomas Frank and Burnley’s Vincent Kompany.
Reacting to Pochettino’s surprising departure from Chelsea, Terry wrote on Instagram: ‘Gutted to see Pochettino leave.
‘I just hope we don’t sign or sell any players until we get a new manager in.’
Chelsea and Pochettino both gave brief statements following the announcement the Argentine was leaving Stamford Bridge after just one season.
‘Thank you to the Chelsea ownership group and Sporting Directors for the opportunity to be part of this football club’s history,’ Pochettino said.
