Helen Skelton has admitted she tried to lie about dropping cakes on the floor before serving them to judges on The Great British Bake Off.
The Countryfile host, 40, took part in the Channel 4 show for Comic Relief with comic Alistair McGowan, 59, singer Rochelle Humes, 35, and comedian Doon Mackichan, 61, a decade ago.
During the episode, the group were challenged with making pizzas, Eccles cakes and tiered cakes, which they then presented to Paul Hollywood, 58, and Mary Berry, 89.
However, Helen has now revealed she wasn’t willing to let her hard work go to waste after it spent a moment on the floor.
‘When I got kicked off, I got thanked for bringing the comedy element,’ she told comedians Ed Gamble and James Acaster on their Off Menu podcast.
‘I dropped all my cakes and didn’t realise there were cameras everywhere. I picked them up and put them on the table.
‘They asked if I dropped them, I said, “No, no, it’s fine”.’
She added: ‘I didn’t think anyone had seen. But they were like, “You’ve just dropped them, dusted them off and then offered them to Mary”. I wouldn’t have stuck to my lie if I’d have known.’
During the interview Helen also said she didn’t realise contestants wouldn’t be told what to bake and she didn’t think to practice before heading to set.
Despite Helen trying to hoodwink the professionals, she later found herself in her own food mix-up.
While in Peru for a charity trip in 2011, Helen admitted she tried the delicacy called Cuy al Horno, which is actually baked guinea pig.
Speaking on the Spooning With Mark Wogan Podcast earlier this year, she said: ‘So we went to this place in the middle of nowhere, it went out and there’s a big garden and there was all these hutches and they were showing me around.
‘They’re showing me all these hutches and I was like, oh that’s cute. It’s guinea pigs. Obviously, it was a bit of a language and a cultural barrier, but I was enthusiastic because they were proud, and I was being respectful…
‘I thought they were just showing me their guinea pigs. I didn’t realise that I was picking my lunch.’

Helen, a self-confessed ‘animal lover’, was incredibly torn but didn’t want to be rude to her hosts, who looked ‘proud’ to serve her the meal.
She ended up eating the meal, but said she initially intended to take the fact ‘to my grave’.
