The Maccabees have confirmed they will finally reunite for a headline performance at a popular UK festival after calling it a day eight years ago.
The 00s indie rock icons will perform at All Points East on August 24, 2025, which coincidentally marks 10 years since their critically acclaimed album Marks To Prove It.
Fans of the band were sent into overdrive as the group released a very vague update for the first time a few weeks ago.
Of the announcement, guitarist Felix White said: ‘In the intervening years we’ve been to All Points East a lot, separately. It’s become a bit of a landmark festival for us, always checking who’s on the line-up.
‘I’d go and have a great time throughout the day, but there was always this pinch of regret watching headliners that we could’ve done it ourselves one day too. I thought that moment had passed, and it was something I was prepared to come to terms with that I was always going to miss.
‘I think we’re all kind of shocked and excited that we get to do it together again.’
The Maccabees first formed in 2004 and had huge success with their song Toothpaste Kisses which was released in 2007 with their album Colour It In.
It was actually in 2020 that the first reunion took place, although it was rather more intimate at the wedding of guitarist Hugo White.
He invited former bandmate and vocalist Orlando Weekes to perform together for a musical celebration, which included guests Adele and Florence Welch.
To Hugo’s shock, Orlando accepted the invitation, sharing: ‘I didn’t go because it was The Maccabees playing together again, but because it was a beautiful gesture to be invited and to contribute to the spirit of the day. What I wanted, band aside, was to find a way to be in each other’s lives in some way.’
This sparked a tentative rebuilding of their friendship, having split after a sold-out farewell gig in Alexandra Palace, London in 2017.
The five bandmates – Hugo, Felix, Orlando, Rupert Jarvis, and Sam Doyle – put aside old differences and are now finally ready to take to the stage together again.
Hugo shared that The Strokes’ headlining show at last year’s All Points East had been a driving force in his desire to get the band back together.
He said: ‘I could see that they were enjoying it, realising how great what they had created together was. Being a band, you are usually in a mindset of, “We can do better” and you’re always chasing something else.
‘This is an opportunity to realise that whatever we had in that moment was pretty special and get to enjoy it again. It’s a chance to appreciate everything, and especially how it impacts other people and created a community.’
Tickets for the festival will go on sale on Thursday, October 31, at 10 from the All Points East website.
By 2009, following the success of their first two albums, The Maccabees were a firm indie favourite and released Wall of Arms to moderate chart success.
Three years later, they released Given to the Wild and their last album Marks to Prove It was released in July 2015, two years before their last show.
Their social media overhaul last week clued fans into the fact something big was on the way, sharing a new logo out of the blue.
After seeing the post from the band, fans were immediately sent into a frenzy, with WillRead’s comment ‘Eeeeeeeeek’, summing up the general sentiment on X.
‘As I never got the chance to see you guys live. DO NOT play with me like this! 🤞,’ said Mr_JamesWatt
‘Oasis who? This is massive!’ said FattyMench79 as Havinaradox added: ‘Aw man if this is what I hope it is that’s awesome news.’

Other fans joked about the post, suggesting it meant nothing at all. ‘Congratulations on remembering the password,’ joked Gertcha.
Adding more fuel to the fires of the rumours, Felix White, the guitarist and backing vocalist in the band, responded to the post with an eyeballs emoji.
They will take to the stage at All Points East at Victoria Park, London, on August 24, 2025 with supporting lineup yet to be announced.
Tickets for The Maccabees go on sale at 10am on Thursday, October 31, from the festival’s website.
