Billie Eilish got emotional on stage in Nashville after she declared Donald Trump’s victory in the US election a ‘war on women’.
Trump won the US Presidential Election on Tuesday, defeating Kamala Harris and becoming the 47th President.
In the early hours yesterday morning, the businessman declared himself the winner as both Fox News and NBC confirmed his triumph over the Democrat candidate and Kamala Harris.
The Vice President officially called Trump to concede defeat, after he won key states across the country including Georgia, Pennsylvania and Texas – the result also tipped in his favour overnight from Indiana, West Virginia, Mississippi, Alabama and Oklahoma all voting red.
After many celebrities took to social media to endorse Kamala Harris – including Barbara Streisand, Spike Lee, Mark Hamill, Jamie Lee Curtis, Charli XCX, Lil Nas X, Kerry Washington, Mark Ruffalo, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, and Shonda Rhimes – they are now sharing their reactions to the Republican win.
Many who endorsed Harris also expressed their disappointment at the result.
The Ocean Eyes hitmaker, 22, took to the stage in Nashville the evening of the results and was visibly emotional in videos posted on social media by fans.
‘Got my heart is beating fast. Someone who hates women so, so deeply is about to be the President of the United States of America,’ she said, before a loaded pause, as fans shouted out a chorus of: ‘F**k Trump.’
‘So, this song is for all the women out there. I love you,’ she said, before launching into Your Power.
Billie also took to social media as the results came in and on a black screen, simply wrote: ‘It’s a war on women.’
Wicked actress Ariana Grande also shared a heartfelt message to fans on her Instagram story.
In the post, set against a black background, the 31-year-old said: ‘Holding the hand of every person who is feeling the immeasurable heaviness of this outcome today.
After the election results, Bruce Springsteen appeared in Toronto, Canada, opening his concert saying: ‘This is a fighting prayer for my country,’ before performing his 2007 track Long Walk Home, according to videos circulating on social media.
The song, from his Magic album, includes themes of women and freedom. His second track was 2001 song Land Of Hope And Dreams – often described as a celebration of America.
The US rocker previously endorsed Harris for president, calling Trump ‘the most dangerous candidate for president in my lifetime’ in a video posted on social media.
In the video, Springsteen also said Trump’s ‘disdain for the sanctity of our constitution, the sanctity of democracy, the sanctity of the rule of law and the sanctity of the peaceful transfer of power’ should disqualify him from presidency.
Freaky Friday actress Jamie Lee Curtis said the public need to ‘wake up and fight’.
The Oscar-winner said on social media: ‘So the results are in. Many will be celebrating, possibly even gloating over their victory.
‘Many will be stunned and sad with the terrible feelings of the loss.
‘That is the same result despite who wins because that’s what America and democracy looks like. Has always looked like.’
US talk show host Jimmy Kimmel struggled to hold back tears as he opened his broadcast after the results.
the host of Jimmy Kimmel Live! kicked off his monologue noting that the choice for US president came down to a prosecutor and a criminal, ‘and we chose the criminal’.
‘More than half of this country voted for the criminal who is planning to pardon himself for his crimes. I guess this election wasn’t rigged,’ he joked.
Sorry, this video isn't available any more.
Becoming emotional, Kimmel continued: ‘It was a terrible night for women, for children, for the hundreds of thousands of hard-working immigrants who make this country go, for health care, for our climate, for science, for journalism, for justice, for free speech.
‘It was a terrible night for poor people, for the middle class, for seniors who rely on social security, for our allies in Ukraine, for NATO, for the truth, and democracy and decency.
‘And it was a terrible night for everyone who voted against him. And guess what? It was a bad night for everyone who voted for him too, you just don’t realise it yet.’
Kimmel described it as a ‘really good night’ for Russian leader Vladimir Putin, and ‘lovable billionaires like Elon Musk’ as well as ‘all the wriggling brain worms who sold what was left of their souls to bow down to Donald Trump’.
Cardi B, who appeared at a campaign rally for Harris, took to her Instagram page as the results were rolling in, and said: ‘I’m f**king sad. I’m f**king sad. I don’t know I’m just really f**king annoyed.’
‘I see that Kamala didn’t come out to talk at Howard. As strong as she is, I know she’s probably emotional right now. There’s a lot going on in her mind. I just hope she knows that millions of people are proud of her, I’m proud of her.
‘Women around the world are proud of her. Women of color are proud of her. At the beginning of the year I didn’t want to go for nobody, she changed my mind.’
In a follow-up post, the Bodak Yellow rapper said: ‘To Vice President Kamala, no matter what they’ve said to bring you down or belittle your run for presidency they can never say you didn’t run your race with honesty and with integrity!
‘You really put up a fight against all the odds that were already stacked against you! You never accepted defeat as an option which says so much about your strength and about your heart.
‘You really wanted better for ALL of us! This may not mean as much but I am so proud of you! No one has ever made me change my mind and you did!
‘I never thought I would see the day that a woman of color would be running for the President of the United States, but you have shown me, showed my daughters and women across the country that anything is possible.’
She added: ‘Thank you for being an example, thank you for being empowered, thank you for being a real example of what the American dream should be!’

Christina Applegate wrote: ‘Please unfollow me if you voted against female rights. Against disability rights. Yeah that.
‘Unfollow me because what you did is unreal. Don’t want followers like this. So yeah. Done. Also after today I will be shutting down this fan account that I have had for so many years because this is sick.’
Dawn O’Porter shared a picture of all the US states lit up in Republican red, and wrote: ‘This is breaking my heart. After all that, still this.’

‘But….the boats…or should I say the bait.’
Alongside a picture of him on the beach with his dog, Chris Packham wrote: ‘Things have just got a lot more difficult. Here’s what I think. I had no control over what just happened. None.

The Hollywood actor wrote a piece for his mother-in-law Maria Shriver’s newsletter in which he suggested Americans must ‘accept the results’ whatever they may be and concentrate on their civic duty.
‘Like so many of us, I’ve been doomscrolling my way through this election season,’ the 45-year-old wrote in the Sunday Paper.
‘And I see things from both sides. I understand that people’s lives and rights are on the line.
‘I also see that there are millions of people who feel overlooked and invisible to our government and are desperate for something to change.’
The Jurassic World star said ‘about half of the voting population’ will be ‘incredibly disappointed’ on Wednesday as the US election results trickle in.
‘It’s OK to take a moment to lick your wounds when you lose. Heck, go ahead and cry in the mirror,’ he wrote.
‘But if we become too paralysed by defeat or too pompous in victory, allegiance to our ‘team’ can blind us to the fact that we are fellow countrymen.
‘How do we become a nation of honourable winners and graceful losers? It starts with remembering, no matter who wins or loses, there are still going to be people who need help in this country.’
