Christmas is mere hours away, and shoppers are raiding supermarkets searching for a festive dessert to complete their meal.
And one new offering from Lidl is causing quite the stir.
Described as the ‘best dessert yet’ the Deluxe Christmas Express Belgian Chocolate Train is a decedent chocolate yule log, shaped like a steam train.
The Lidl website reads: ‘A Belgian chocolate train filled with chocolate mousse and salted caramel, with a brownie base and marshmallow steam.’
At just £9.99 it’s a bargain, but it’s proving pretty elusive to track down.
On Facebook, Lidl fans are sharing how hard it is to catch the train.
‘I wanted this so bad, stalked the store, went from not here to sold out without me ever seeing it arrive,’ commented Lindsay Atkinson on the New Food Finds UK account.
Marlene Williams also couldn’t buy one: ‘Been three times to mine [Lidl] today early this morning then mid-morning again this afternoon. None whatsoever. Said they sold out.’
Some did indeed manage to get the chocolate treat, but noted they were part of an exclusive group.
‘There were literally 8 in my store, I had to be there as soon as it opened to get one,’ said Naomi Harris.

According to shoppers, the dessert costs £9.99 but is £3 less with a Lidl Plus card at £6.99.
However, the product is no longer being advertised on Lidl’s website, meaning those hoping to snag it might need a Christmas miracle…
