Fans of a series about a grieving therapist have been left ‘sobbing’ tuning into the season 2 finale.
First released last year, the Apple TV Plus comedy drama Shrinking was created by Bill Lawrence (Scrubs), Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother) and Brett Goldstein (Ted Lasso).
It stars Jason as Jimmy Laird, a therapist working at the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Center who is dealing with the aftermath of the death of his wife Tia, who was killed in a car accident.
After becoming frustrated at his patient’s unsuccessful efforts to solve their own problems, he decides to take matters into his own hands to intervene and make the changes they want despite the ethical violations.
The series also stars Harrison Ford as his colleague, senior therapist Dr. Paul Rhoades, while the second season introduced Goldstein as Louis Winston, the drunk driver responsible for Tia’s fatal car accident.
The latest episodes started being released in October, with season 2’s final episode also coming a day early this week.
Announcing the update, Goldstein wrote on Instagram: ‘The Shrinking Season Two finale has arrived early! Available to watch on @appletv. Written by myself and the genius @vdoozer and co-showrunner Heat Buddy @neil.goldman and brilliantly directed by @vdoozer himself. Huge thanks to an incredible cast and an amazing crew. If you’ve come this far, you have to see how it ends. See you on the other side. (no spoilers in the comments please!) Good luck everyone!’
After racing to watch the episode, he was met with many heartfelt messages from fans of the show.
‘This season was a 10/10. No notes. I’m legit in mourning now that I have to wait for Season 3,’ Vanessa commented.
‘I had the loudest, most audible sobs to ever come out of a human. It was a beautiful season of growth,’ Meg shared.
‘Absolutely perfect. Masterpiece. Lessons in kindness, acceptance and forgiveness. What the world needs more of,’ Bryan added.
Several others called it a ‘perfect season of television’ while many were also left ‘ugly crying’.
Another glowing review from a viewer said it was ‘hands down the best episode of TV ever made’.

The series, which holds a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, has already been renewed for a third season.
Ford recently spoke about the touching fan interactions he’d experience since working on this series.
‘People who come to me now say, “Hey, excuse me. I just wanted to tell you, we love that show. We watch it with my family, and we love it” and then they turn around and go away. No picture, nothing, because what they’re doing is they’re knitting into this empathetic framework, and they’re not seeing me as an actor, they’re seeing me as somebody that they’ve had this experience with. And it’s a phenomenal change,’ he told Deadline.
