A 17-year-old boy has been charged with murder after an 18-year-old was stabbed to death in Derbyshire days after Christmas.
Noah Smedley was found collapsed with a stab wound on Heanor Road, Ilkeston, around 8.20pm on December 28. He died just before 9pm.
Eight people were arrested in connection with his death. Now a 17-year-old boy, who cannot be identified due to his age, has been charged with murder following his arrest earlier today.
He is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Three other 17-year-old boys arrested on suspicion of murder have been released with no further action. Another has been released on bail pending further enquiries.
A 52-year-old man and a 16–year-old girl, both arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, have been released on bail.
Another 16-year-old girl, arrested for the same reason, has been released with no further action.
Noah Smedley’s family have been made aware of his death. They are being assisted by specially trained officers, Derbyshire Police said.

Detective Chief Inspector Claudia Musson from the East Midlands Special Operation Unit, who is leading the investigation said: ‘We are in the very early stages of the investigation and we are treating it as an isolated incident.
‘We are keen for anyone with information to contact us as a matter of urgency to assist with the inquiry into the death of this young man.’
The force has appealed for any CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage taken between 7pm and 9pm around Heanor Road, Rose Avenue, Summerfields Way, Kedleston Drive and Peveril Drive.
