WWE Hall of Famer Edge has undergone another name change in All Elite Wrestling and fans are cringing.
The Rated R Superstar, who left WWE in 2023 and joined AEW shortly after, had been working under his real name Adam Copeland, but his return from injury has sparked a new moniker for 2025.
On last night’s episode of AEW Dynamite – which marked the show’s debut on MAX as WWE makes the jump to Netflix – he was introduced as Cope.
Although the 51-year-old wrestler is still unable to use Edge due to trademark issues, fans don’t think he’s nailed the right replacement.
‘Adam Copeland being called Cope is just not it. It’s just sounds cringe #AEWDynamite,’ wrote @NickVaj28, while @ChaserevX added: ‘Adam Copeland going by “Cope” is cringe.’
‘Is “Cope” gonna be a thing? That’s a terrible idea. As nickname it’s fine, but as his actual name…awful,’ ranted @JD_Oliva, while @Dstirubedm11 insisted: ‘Cope is awful wtf should have just stayed Adam Copeland 😭😭’
The wrestling icon had been out of action since May 2024 when he suffered a fractured tibia when he jumped from the top of a cage during a win over Malakai Black.
A decorated champion, as Edge he held the world championship several times in WWE, while he was the TNT Champion in AEW at the time of his injury earlier last year.
He reappeared at AEW Worlds End last month to confront Jon Moxley and his the Death Riders teammates Wheeler Yuta and Claudio Castagnoli.
On Wednesday night, Cope made his in-ring return at AEW Dynamite: Fight For The Fallen, as he partnered up with his longtime friends in FTR, Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler.
Together, the trio defeated the Death Riders, with FTR – known as The Revival in WWE – hitting the Shatter machine on Yuta, before Cope pinned him after a Spear.
There was plenty of drama on the closing stretch, with Jay White getting involved and catching Yuta with a BladeRunner just as Cope hit Moxley with a backdrop onto the announce table and speared him through the ringside barricade.
Elsewhere on Dynamite, Cope’s fellow WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett announced he had re-signed with AEW for what will be his final professional wrestling contract.
The so-called Last Outlaw revealed his plans to capture the world championship before he officially hangs up his boots.

Meanwhile, fans also had some complaints about the new theme tune for AEW Dynamite, with Tony Khan’s company opting for The Pointer Sisters’ 1982 hit I’m So Excited.
‘Of Course. When I think of great songs that just SCREAM Wrestling,it is I’m So Excited by The Pointer Sisters. #AEWDynamite,’ wrote @TrulyJulieRokks, while @ChrisStanton316 quipped: ‘The Pointer Sisters? Way to be relevant.’
Other fans insisted it was a great choice for the next era of the company, whereas some people suggested it wasn’t the right fit.
