A man has been jailed for eight years for firearms offences after shots were fired in Smethwick last year. Azeem Hussain, aged 26 was part of a gang that targeted a business in Smethwick last year, injuring two men in their 40s. At around midday on 12 January, a Ford Fiesta pulled up outside City Computers on Bertram Road and a group attacked the business. Two of them held an axe and two of them had a shotgun. Shots were fired at the business and the windows and doors were smashed. One victim was hit in the arm by a gunshot and another victim suffered a neck injury. Thanks to extensive CCTV and mobile phone work, officers placed Jamal Hussain as the driver of the Ford Fiesta. CCTV footage from the previous day, showed the gang scouting out the route from their Walsall addresses to Bertram Road and around the area. There are also numerous calls between the gang during the morning of the attack. Azeem Hussain fled the country soon after the incident. However, he was arrested from the airport following his return to the UK in April this year. Hussain, from Walsall admitted to charges brought against him at a previous hearing and was jailed for eight years at Worcester Crown Court on Thursday (11 Sept).

The official unveiling of two new sculptures of Corgis outside Walsall Arboretum Visitor Centre, commemorating Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Release date ? October 4, 2024. A cash-strapped council has been slammed for spending ?35,000 of taxpayers cash on two corgi statues in tribute to Queen Elizabeth II. Walsall Council forked out thousands of pounds on the stone corgis which have gone on display in Walsall Arboretum as it celebrates its 150th anniversary. But many residents have questioned whether the cash could have been spent better elsewhere as the authority looks to slash ?20m from its budget this year. Locals also pointed to the fact council tax had been raised by 4.99 per cent and said they failed to 'see the point' of the 5ft long commemorative corgi statues. Tracey Wilkins, 55, of Blakenall, Walsall, said: "I like them, but it's a bit controversial, isn't it?
