Established in April 1, 1974, West Midlands Police combined elements of Birmingham City Police, West Midlands Constabulary, Warwickshire and Coventry Constabulary, West Mercia Constabulary, and more. Headed by a Chief Constable appointed by the PCC, the service is still based in Birmingham.

The canal off Hendon Avenue in Ettingshall, Wolverhampton, where a child died yesterday evening (Aug 11). August 12, 2024. Release date ??? August 12, 2024. A boy has died after being pulled from a canal in Wolverhampton. Emergency services were called to Hendon Avenue in the Ettingshall area of the city after the youngster got into difficulties in the water at around 6pm yesterday (Sun). Police officers managed to pull the child out of the canal in a critical condition before paramedics began administering advanced life support. However, despite the efforts of medical staff, the boy, who has not been named, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. West Midlands Ambulance Service said they sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer, a MERIT trauma doctor and critical care paramedic.
