While many people may indulge over the festive season, others are looking for ways to shed the pounds.
We may be surrounded by lots of delicious food at the moment, but people won't want to go into the new year with a bad attitude towards grub. In fact, some may even be trying to slim down already.
You may be in luck, as health gurus have claimed adding a simple ingredient to your coffee could aid your weight loss journey. A recipe has gone viral on TikTok after toprecipes.1 shared a simple trick – all you need to do is add some juice to your morning beverage.
It's claimed you could drop "five kilos (11lbs)" quickly by adopting the recipe as it can help to reduce fat. She starts by juicing three limes into a bowl.
Then, she chops up the limes and places them into a pot along with a tablespoon of coffee and two cinnamon sticks. From here, she pours half a litre of water into the pot, and covers and boils the mixture for five minutes.
She added: "After boiling, strain the mixture into a clean container. Our fat burning drink is ready. Pour into a cup and add a tablespoon of the juice you saved at the beginning.
"Drink this mixture on an empty stomach every day for a week, avoiding sweeteners to maximise its weight loss benefits... Drink one to two hot cups."
In the video, it was noted the drink shouldn't be consumed all the time. It goes without saying that there is no miracle fruit that can help you drop weight in an instant, but there are said to be benefits to drinking lime juice.
While there's no evidence to suggest drinking lime juice alone can result in weight loss, it does have beneficial qualities. Reports state adding lime juice to drinks can help you manage your weight.
This is because citric acids can boost metabolism which, in turn, helps you burn more calories and rid more fat. When it comes to losing weight, it's no secret that regular physical activity and portion control is vital.
What's more, limes are packed with vitamin C. This can play a role in helping your body break down fat during exercise, so could possibly aid in weight loss if you work out regularly.
Generally, people should aim for 30 minutes of physical activity most days of the week, and focus on eating more fruit and vegetables too. But you could always boost your metabolism by adding lime juice to your drinks. You could even suck on a lime wedge before you tuck into your meals.
