If you're trying to eat better and looking for dishes to help lower your cholesterol, this breakfast recipe is ideal for a healthier start to the day. Instagram foodie Cakeontherun has shared her delicious breakfast recipe and it contains top ingredients that lower your cholesterol according to the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

Her simple strawberry pancake recipe is low in saturated fat but tastes like cake. Her all-in-one method means it is super easy to make, plus it can be cooked in advance - saving you time in the morning. Perfect for breakfast or dessert, the scrumptious recipe contains oats, nuts, seeds and fruit which are among the five best cholesterol-lowering foods listed by BHF senior dietitian Victoria Taylor.

Oats contain a type of soluble fibre called beta glucans which forms a gel in the gut to help stop cholesterol from being absorbed into the body. And this recipe calls for five tablespoons of the cheap and versatile breakfast ingredient.

Nuts and seeds are a good source of unsaturated fats as well as fibre and other nutrients, and for this recipe you will need one tablespoon of almond flakes and one tablespoons of chia seeds. Both are filling to eat and make a tasty and convenient swap for snacks like chocolate, cakes and biscuits, which are usually high in saturated fat. Used in this way they can help lower your cholesterol levels.

Fruit is good a source of fibre and eating more fibre is linked to a lower risk of heart and circulatory diseases. Fruit contains both insoluble and soluble fibre which makes them a great choice that could also help to reduce your cholesterol level.

For this recipe you will need half a banana and a few strawberries. However, it also works with blackberries, raspberries or blueberries (fresh or frozen) if you can't get hold of starwberries.

The fruity pancakes can be enjoyed on their own, hot or cold (toasted too) or with some Greek yoghurt for extra protein.
