A busy road in Staines has shut due to a lorry getting stuck under a bridge. The A320, Chertsey Lane is closed in both directions this morning (1 August).
The bridge strike was first reported in the early hours. Reports suggest the road has been shut since 4.30am.
It is shut between Simmons Place and Bowes Road. Those taking the 466 bus should be aware there will be a diversion in place for passengers.
The White Bus Service said: "Due to a bridge strike at Bowes Road ,Chertsey Lane has been closed between Thorpe Park and Sainsbury's in Staines. Services will divert via Twynersh, B388 Thorpe Road, Thorpe Bypass, Thorpe Lea Road, Thorpe Road to rejoin normal line of route. Apologies for any inconvenience caused."

The road appears to have re-opened, having been closed in the early hours of this morning.

The latest on the A320
Where did the bridge strike take place?
The A320 in Staines shut between Simmons Place and Bowse Road, after a bridge strike was reported. Recovery work is taking place but it is not known when the road will reopen.
Luckily, there has been no impact on the South Western Railway Service, but it is likely there may need to be an inspection on the bridge to ensure it is still safe.
Traffic is building in the surrounding area, and drivers will find heavy congestion on Bowes Road and St Paul's Road. There is also traffic around the roundabout on approach on Thorpe Road.
South Western Railway unaffected by bridge strike
South Western Railway has confirmed that it has not been affected by the bridge strike in Staines. A railway bridge has been hit by a lorry, which is stuck underneath it on the A320, Chertsey Lane.
Since the incident, the road shut between Simmons Place and Bowes Road. Drivers will want to avoid the area as the lorry is removed.
Bus services have been diverted, the 466 White Bus Service is taking an alternative route as a result of the road closure. More updates to follow.
