DESCRIPTION

This document is a US Realm implementation guide for immunization messaging. The document covers both submission of vaccination events and patient demographics as well as bi-directional query and response. This document is suitable for use by a variety of actors including Immunization Information Systems (IIS), EHRs, pharmacies and HIEs.

DEVELOPMENT BACKGROUND

The content of this document is substantially similar to a document published by the CDC and the American Immunization Registry Association (AIRA) which forms the basis of the 2015 EHR certification requirements and Meaningful Use (Promoting Interoperability). This document adopts many of the use cases and requirements of this previous document (known as v2.5.2 Release 1.5 IG) and adapts them for v2.8.2 while simultaneously clarifying and enhancing the requirements.
