Gordon Ramsay has shared his heartbreak over missing his kids’ important milestones after admitting he’s made “sacrifices”.
The award-winning Michelin-starred chef is dad to five kids - daughter Megan, 26, twins Jack and Holly, 24, Tilly, 22, Oscar, five, and Jesse, who Gordon and wife Tana welcomed last year following a devastating miscarriage. But he confessed he’s missed out on important events as his children have grown up, and spoke about the sacrifices he’s made juggling family life with his own hugely successful career.
During an episode of the US version of MasterChef, the 58-year-old spoke about his own parenting failures as he comforted a contestant after she broke down over missing her son’s first day of school to be on the show. Recalling his own battle to “the top”, Gordon reassured Chloe, and said everyone often have to make sacrifices in their personal lives to succeed. “Everybody needs to sacrifice to get to the top. That's life. This competition's a phenomenon,” he began.
“The rewards at the top are extraordinary. I can give you 25 examples of what I've missed with my four kids over the last 10 years. And it kills me. But you get to a certain level of success in life, and there's a price to pay for that. So park that and continue on that journey,” he explained.
Gordon and Tana announced the surprise arrival of their sixth child, baby boy Jesse, in November last year, after the couple reeled from the devastating heartbreak of losing their baby Rocky when Tana was five months pregnant. “What an amazing birthday present please welcome Jesse James Ramsay, 7lbs 10oz whopper!! One more bundle of love to the Ramsay brigade!! 3 boys, 3 girls... Done,” Gordon wrote in an Instagram post announcing his son’s birth.
Tana, 50, confessed she had struggled with anxiety throughout her last pregnancy, and agreed with her husband when she said they were done having children. “It’s been a nerve wracking 9 months but we’ve made it and we have been blessed with this little bundle. Ramsay family definitely complete. Jesse James Ramsay we love you so much,” she wrote on social media.
Last year, Gordon spoke candidly about losing baby Rocky, and said it took a real toll on their family. “Losing Rocky was really tough, and then just being there and watching the trauma unfold, it's just this life-changing moment,” he told People.
