She was Minister for Disabled People from 2010 to 2012 before being promoted to the Cabinet as Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport. She resigned from Cabinet in April 2014 after an expenses row.
Maria is the Chair of the Women and Equalities Select Committe.
