Holidays are all about relaxation, having fun with your loved ones, and abandoning those mundane tasks that you do at home every day, like cooking.
And tucked away in a tiny village very near Surrey there is a five star family hotel that allows you to do all of these things and much, much more.
Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire is a luxury resort hidden on a 500-acre estate in leafy west Surrey. It's an 18th-century manor house in the charming Dogmersfield near Fleet and it is perfect for a summer break, without having to face the all-too-common delays and disappointments at airports.
The most recent review on Tripadvisor said the hotel was more for families than couples wanting a quiet retreat but this is not echoed by the many other reviews, reports Surrey Live.
The review before that said: "Our first time staying with you and what a wonderful short stay it's been. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, we were utterly spoilt and truly looked after.
"This trip was booked a surprise birthday present for my husband, and what a memorable stay it's been not just for him but us all as a family. I cannot tell you how wonderfully refreshing it was to stay somewhere that not only felt truly special for the adults but ensures children are equally well looked after."
"We've stayed in many luxury hotels where we've not felt particularly comfortable bringing our child with us - but the ethos at the Four Seasons is totally incomparable. They go above and beyond to not only make sure as parents we feel comfortable but make a fuss of the children too."
The hotel is dog-friendly and serves up the perfect get-away vibe with its lush buffet spread, engaging kids' activities, a children's splash zone, a sprawling swimming pool, and an outdoor vitality pool paired with sun loungers and a poolside bar.
Breakfast is a feast for all tastes, featuring waffles, pancakes, pastries, freshly-baked bread, cereals, fruit, and yoghurt, plus steaming offerings of full cooked items like sausages, bacon, eggs, hash browns, baked beans, tomatoes, and mushrooms.
For a Continental twist, guests can indulge in cold cuts such as ham, cheese, smoked salmon, and locally sourced honey. Plant-based diners aren't forgotten, with falafel, vegetarian sausages, and shakshuka zesty North African and Middle Eastern specialty with poached eggs in spicy tomato sauce on the menu.
Guests can then take a leisurely stroll around the stunning grounds, which include a spa.
A family adventure pool named Sharkie's Reef is one of the highlights, featuring a 4m slide, rotating umbrella fountain and bubble jets. The main pool, housed in a spectacular glass building filled with tropical plants, gives guests the feeling of being on a foreign holiday.
Attached to the main pool is an outdoor vitality pool where guests can bask in the sun.
Plenty of sun loungers are available, both by the water and on the upper deck lawn, along with a pool bar offering cool drinks and toasties. A dispenser provides icy water on tap, and extra towels and sun cream are conveniently located next to the sun beds.
Beyond the pool area, guests can enjoy tennis courts, a high wire adventure course, a play trail, clay pigeon shooting, croquet, cycling and pony trekking. On Sundays, the Wild Carrot restaurant serves a traditional Sunday roast.
On offer is corn-fed roast chicken, salt marsh leg of lamb, dry-aged beef fore rib, along with vegetarian options like warm quiche or pasta bake and whole grilled sea bream. To accompany these, there's honey glazed roasted root vegetables, tender-stem broccoli, triple-cooked potatoes, creamy cauliflower cheese, fluffy Yorkshire pudding and silky smooth house gravy.
Operating from 12.30pm until 3pm, guests can enjoy their meal at a relaxed pace while soaking in the breathtaking countryside views through the restaurant's floor-to-ceiling windows.
