Burnley boss Vincent Kompany has held talks over a stunning move to Bayern Munich, who are scrambling to find a new manager.
After being rejected by several high-profile candidates over the past month, including Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann and Ralf Rangnick, the German giants have turned their attention to English football. Kompany, 38, failed to guide Burnley to safety this season after securing a record-breaking 101-point promotion from the Championship in 2023.
The Manchester City legend previously managed Anderlecht, who he finished his playing career with. Kompany's managerial style and brand of football has impressed Bayern chiefs, as has that of Brentford manager Thomas Frank. The Dane recently kept Brentford in the top flight for the third successive season, despite being without his best players for large portions of the campaign.
Burnley, on the other hand, only won five of their 38 Premier League games this term but that hasn't deterred Bayern, according to Sky Germany. The Bundesliga giants are getting desperate to confirm their next head coach following the protracted departure of Thomas Tuchel, who Bayern considered keeping after agreeing to part ways in February, only to see an upturn in form and reach the Champions League semi-finals.
A fresh deal couldn't be agreed, though, with Tuchel saying ahead of Saturday's shock 4-2 defeat to Hoffenheim: "There were talks again with the club in the past week but we did not reach an agreement on a continued cooperation, so we stick with the February decision.
"We did not agree but I won't go into individual points. That all happens behind closed doors."
The ex-Chelsea boss has been tipped for the Manchester United job should Erik ten Hag be sacked, as has Frank. Kompany, meanwhile, has also been linked with the Brighton vacancy and was tight-lipped on his future after 19th-placed Burnley ended their season with a 2-1 loss at home to Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

"I never answer questions about my future, ever," the Belgian replied. "I've never done in the past and I won't do it in the future. It was a decision I made on the first day of my career. Whatever amount of years [on my contract], no other thinking. Just try and do something special in the next few weeks if possible."
Bayern's public struggle to appoint a new manager has led to claims that they've missed out on as many as six candidates. After Alonso, Nagelsmann and Rangnick decide to remain in their respective posts, Benfica manager Roger Schmidt did the same and Crystal Palace priced Oliver Glasner out of an exit.
Now former Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi was a name linked with the Bayern job months ago, yet he's expected to take a break before returning to management.
