Manchester City have identified Omar Marmoush as a potential January target - but a deal is facing a number of issues.

Pep Guardiola’s side have struggled so far this season and are already 14 points off the pace in the race for the Premier League title. A clutch of signings could potentially get them back on track and targets have already been identified.

Eintracht Frankfurt star Marmoush is one of those. The Egyptian is currently in the midst of a stunning campaign with the Bundesliga side having scored 18 goals already this term.

Arsenal and Liverpool have already been linked and could represent tough competition. And according to the Daily Mail, the striker is also of interest to City, who have taken a close look at him and have been left impressed.

The 25-year-old has already spoken out on a Premier League switch but is not allowing himself to get swept away in the rumours. Speaking to Bild, he said: "Of course, you hear about it in passing.

“I'm honored that people are talking about me. That shows that I'm obviously doing a good job. But it doesn't concern me at all in my day-to-day life. My focus is solely on Eintracht Frankfurt and on being successful here.

“There’s always a lot of speculation on the outside. But I don’t actually have a particular dream goal. What I can promise the fans is that I will give my all for Eintracht in every game. I am not thinking about a transfer. I am living in the here and now and enjoying my time in Frankfurt.

“Eintracht believed in me and put their trust in me. I want to repay that trust with good performances and goals. What happens in the distant future, however, doesn’t interest me. I want to continue to do my best so that at the end of the season we can say as a team: We have achieved something big.”

While any potential move for Marmoush would likely be welcomed, it would not quite meet Guardiola’s criteria for any potential signing. The City boss has already identified two positions he would like to strengthen first.

"In some positions we need help," Guardiola said. "When we're all together we're the team we were but with important players out for weeks and months it's so difficult.

"I thought central defenders would be fit all season but we have struggled - holding midfield and central defenders we need help. The market is the market - it's not easy, it's expensive so we will see what the club can do."
