Jodie Comer is back on our screens following the success of Killing Eve — this time she's starring in a one-part series called Help with fellow Liverpudlian, friend and colleague Stephen Graham.
The gripping drama is set during the Covid pandemic in March 2020 at Bright Sky Homes, a care home in Liverpool.
The story follows the experience of care assistant Sarah (played by Jodie Comer ) as she battles through the early stages of the first lockdown.
Directed by The Third Day’s Marc Munden and written by BAFTA-winning Jack Thorne, Help explores how the coronavirus pandemic impacted care homes across the UK.
Is Help a true story?
The story written by Thorne is a complete work of fiction, although it is spearheaded by the real-world narrative of the coronavirus pandemic.
The plot — which follows Sarah as she selflessly cares for her patients — depicts how the commitment of care assistants was so vital during the fight against the pandemic.
While fictional, it is based on true events, as care homes from across the UK were hit exceedingly hard throughout the public crisis.
Speaking to Channel 4, Thorne explained: “30,000 people have died unnecessarily in these care homes because of the indifference and incompetence of our government.
“Hearing the stories of those at the frontline, having people break down in tears on zoom in front of us has been incredibly moving and galling.
"Getting the story right will be incredibly important, we are aware of the pressure upon us, this has to be written and made with anger and precision. We hope we do it justice.”
