The sacking of Wayne Rooney as Plymouth Argyle manager is reported to have left his wife, Coleen Rooney, absolutely "devastated". Having faced a difficult period with the team lingering at the bottom of the Championship table and managing only four league wins – with not a single victory away from home – the football legend has been axed from Home Park.

This marks Rooney's second managerial dismissal in under a year, following his departure from Birmingham City in January 2024, which unfortunately saw his successors unable to prevent the club's relegation." Coleen was so keen for Wayne's managerial career to work out," a friend of the I'm a Celebrity star is quoted as saying by The Mail. "She knows how much he wanted it and she knows how much he loves football," they added, suggesting Coleen believes football keeps her husband busy and "out of trouble," reports the Mirror.

Coleen is said to be devastated about Wayne's sacking

With broadcasters reportedly scouting him for punditry roles, thanks to his insightful past analysis, a media comeback could be in the cards for Wayne. However, a return to football looks popular with Coleen, if recent coverage is to be believed.

Plymouth Argyle had a promising start to the season but suffered a dramatic fall, losing nine of 15 matches, which ultimately led to Rooney's dismissal. After his departure, Wayne expressed his gratitude towards Plymouth Argyle Football Club, particularly Simon Hallett and Neil Dewsnip, with whom he had great relationships.

He thanked the staff, players, and fans for their support during his tenure as Head Coach and wished them all the best for the future. "To the Green Army thanks for making the games at Home Park so special, they are memories that we will share forever. I would also like to give a special mention to my coaching staff Kevin Nancekivell, Simon Ireland, Darryl Flahavan and Mike Phelan for their knowledge, dedication, help and support."

He concluded by saying, "Plymouth Argyle will always hold a special place in my heart, and I will continue to look out for and take interest in their results."
