Bradley Walsh, star of The Chase, was left surprised when a contestant revealed her previous TV appearances while taking on a quizzing pro in the hopes of scooping a cash prize. Contestant Kathleen shared with the host that she had been on Celebrity Carols at Christmas, alongside Aled Jones, before trying her luck on the famous quiz show.
Despite this surprise, Bradley warmly welcomed her and was keen to cheer her on when she informed him that she would be going for the middle offer. Unfortunately, her efforts to outsmart quizzing ace Darragh Ennis, better known as The Menace did not pay off and she was sadly eliminated in the first round.
Following Kathleen's early elimination, her fellow contestants were left trying to scramble for victory, but sadly two of her fellow contestants also failed to beat the chaser, leaving just one player, Ollie with a chance of securing the £4000 he had picked up in the cash builder.
Facing Darragh alone in the final chase, Ollie put up a good fight as he tried to outsmart The Menace and correctly answer as many questions correctly as possible. With much suspense building, it was finally time to reveal the winner of the day's show, yet tragically despite all of Bradley's backing and support, Ollie fell short in the final round, reports the Daily Star.
The disappointing outcome came as The Menace triumphed - but even despite this, quiz pro Ollie was praised for his "valiant" attempt at securing victory and was even told he could have had the luck to win if he had had the help of another contestant - it was just sadly too tough a battle for him to win alone.
The high praise from The Menace comes after he too was once in Ollie's shoes as a contestant and understands all too well how nerve-wracking the experience can be. Darragh was famously selected to be the newest Chaser back in 2020 after his phenomenal performance on the series lead to him quickly earning the admiration of show bosses and fans alike.
The popular quizzer first made his debut back in November 2020, when he officially joined chasers Mark Labbett, Shaun Wallace, Anne Hegarty, Paul Sinha and Jenny Ryan. Keen to witness quiz show history, a whopping 4.9million people tuned in to his debut episode, making it the most popular episode of The Chase, ever.
In addition to his TV appearances, Darragh also holds down a regular job too and currently works as a laboratory manager and research technician at the University of Oxford, where he studies insect brains.
