Tribute poured in for an ITV The Chase star who tragically lost his life in a house fire. A repeat of Pete Green's episode of the ITV show aired in October last year, with the player going up against Paul Sinha. It initially appeared on our TVs back in 2021.

This prompted fans of The Chase to take to social media to pay tribute to him following his death. One viewer wrote at the time: "Can't watch this without feeling a bit sad." A second said: "Beloved Pete, God Bless him. Rest in Eternal Peace." And another chimed in with: "Pete the legend." Pete sadly passed away before his episode made it to the air, with chaser Paul later paying tribute to him on social media.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, Paul said: "Saddened to hear that Pete from today's Chase has since passed away in horrible circumstances. A true gentleman, a warm, engaging, and thoroughly entertaining opponent."

His son Ben also spoke out, saying: "Dad was so excited about the episode. He talked about it daily up to the filming and then every week after. “

He had an amazing time and described the crew as the most wonderful warm people, and yourself & Bradley as amazing characters he would have liked to have had a beer with! TY."

Colleagues from the council in the area where he lived say his death “cast a shadow” over the town.

Kevin Hurn, the mayor of Wymondham, said: “He was an absolutely sterling character who will be a great, great loss to the town. He was a terrific orator, but also a great listener and was a regular face around the town. The town is in shock – there was an event at the rugby club on Sunday, and as news came through it really cast a shadow over the town.”

He added: “He was very, very knowledgeable about market trading and was a member of the National Federation of Market Traders and was very willing and able to help others."
