Saturday's BBC Breakfast took a bit of a twist during an interview with actor Kelvin Fletcher. The 40-year-old is best known for his stint as Emmerdales Andy Sugden, a role he cherished for two decades before leaving the soap in 2016 to embark on quite a different journey - farming.

He and wife Liz Marsland, along with their four children, are navigating the ropes of rural life on a 120-acre stretch near the Peak District.

Their big lifestyle change has resulted in not just one but two TV series, with Kelvin's Big Farming Adventure and the upcoming Fletchers' Family Farm Christmas Special, set to air this Sunday at 6pm on ITV.

Facing questions from BBC Breakfast hosts Roger Johnson and Naga Munchetty about his new path, interviewer Roger mentioned: "There was one thing that Jeremy Clarkson said, I think it was at the end of series one [of Jeremy's own farming series Clarkson's Farm] when he said how little money he'd made that year, literally, a handful of pounds. He said what's it like for other farmers they don't have a series of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? or The Grand Tour to fall back on," reports Leeds Live.

Acknowledging his successful transition from act to farmer, Roger noted: "Obviously you had your very successful acting career and then you made a very different choice."

However, Kelvin didnt miss a beat correcting the assumption about his acting career: "I've still got it, it's not gone yet!"

Roger pressed on, asking: "Does that help, I'm trying to get to the point here, do you need to rely on that in order to help make the farm work or can the farm stand on its own."

Kelvin responded with a chuckle: "I think every farm is different, you know there's many farmers out there with second jobs. I guess I'm one of those farmers with another job!" Adding that while his farm does have a "commercial" aspect, it's more about a lifestyle shift for his family.

Since his departure from Emmerdale in 2016, Kelvin has been keeping busy and even lifted the glitterball trophy on Strictly Come Dancing in 2019. His acting career didn't pause either, as he's graced our screens in shows like Death In Paradise, Moving On, The Teacher, McDonald and Dodds, and most recently Father Brown.

BBC Breakfast airs at 6am on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
