Jeremy Clarkson and James May joined Richard in their brand new Amazon Prime Video series, The Grand Tour, after the trio left BBC’s Top Gear last year.
After Jeremy was reportedly fired from the series, Richard and James followed suit and quit the series for good.
It was later announced the trio would be back together for a brand new series, with that show now finally launching on Amazon.
Speaking on Good Morning Britain this morning, Richard confessed he “choked up” as he and his pals previewed their first scenes together again.
He wasn’t alone too, as Richard revealed the whole team got “emotional” as they witnessed what they had been working on for so long.
Richard told hosts Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard: “I'm not going to lie, we shot that bit, there’s a moment when all three [of us] arrive..and because I'm the soft one, I was a bit choked and then we all confessed [it was emotional], the whole crew.
“It was a big moment, we'd been working towards it for a long time.”
Richard revealed how many of the cast members had not worked on Top Gear with them, and confessed it was “nerve wracking” seeing how the production would go.
He admitted: “A lot of our team, the production team in the office, a lot of them haven't worked with us [Hammond, May and Clarkson] before.
“For them going through the whole process of us all coming up with daft ideas and then developing it and working it, but then you've got to finish it and see it on and see the reaction to it… that build up was nerve wracking.”
With The Grand Tour given a huge budget to play with, Richard said he wanted loyal fans of the trio to be amazed by what they had come up wth.
He revealed: “We wanted to make something that we're proud of, that people go 'wow' and that meant putting it all on screen, both financially and creatively, we worked hard to make it the best we can do.”
It appears they have done just that too, with viewers taking to Twitter after witnessing the first episode.
Some loyal Top Gear fans thanked the trio for reuniting, and one fan even admitted he liked the news series more than Top Gear.
One fan tweeted: “Thank you @BBC for getting rid of @JeremyClarkson @RichardHammond and @MrJamesMay as the @thegrandtour is amazing.”
Another agreed: “Amazing amazing amazing 1st show!! Can't wait to see what's next.”
On the boys’ return, another said: “Watching @JeremyClarkson @MrJamesMay @RichardHammond's #TheGrandTour and damn, the feels at this scene! Reunion of the champions! #Amazing.”
Another commented: “The @thegrandtour on Amazon Prime was just fantastic, I mean really! Thanks [sic].”
Viewers can watch the new series on Amazon Prime, on Amazon.com, with the first episode premiering this morning.
Jeremy, Richard and James were replaced on Top Gear this year by Matt LeBlanc and Chris Evans, with Chris recently quitting after one series.
