The Chase viewers were left unimpressed and raged there had been a 'fix' on the show after the 'worst team' unexpectedly won against all odds. Quiz expert Shaun Wallace, otherwise known as the Dark Destroyer, went head to head with four hopeful contestants earlier this year.
But eagle-eyed fans of the show quickly branded the episode a 'fix' after contestant Sofia managed to stump Shaun five times in the final chase, as he didn't know the answer to numerous questions. It meant each of the four contestants were over-the-moon when she secured the £4,000 cash prize, with each member of the team receiving £1,000.
During the episode, every single player was caught so they had to nominate one of the team to go head-to-head with Shaun for the final chase. Sofia stepped forward and played for the £4,000 and was impressed when she managed to correctly answer 11 questions within the two-minute timer. With a small advantage of one step ahead, the contestant set a target of 12 for Shaun to beat.
Then in the final chase, Sofia had six shots at stumping Shaun with questions he didn't know the answers to, and she successfully managed to do it five times.
Shaun complimented Sofia for two of her "superb" answers and when her team discovered they’d won £1,000 each, they were thrilled at Sofia’s success. Seemingly shocked at the result, presenter Bradley Walsh commented: "You’ve beaten a mastermind champion by the way! So well played."
The Dark Destroyer added: "I played five of these Lazarus’ and that’s the first time I’ve lost." But viewers were unimpressed and rushed to social media to argue that the episode was a 'fix' after the team came out as the winners. Writing on X, formerly known as Twitter, viewers suggested that the show had been rigged.
One fan wrote: "The Chase is surely a fix. No way that happened," as another replied: "Well that was dreadful. One of the worst teams ever."
A third was in disbelief as they added: "He either gave up or that was a fix. No way did he not know the answers to the Germanic language and Virgo questions." One TV viewer argued: "I'm calling it now, he threw that. Fix."
Meanwhile another user commented: "That has to be the worst ever team to compete on #TheChase and still win? Terrible knowledge and strategy, then they pick the 19-year-old nervous wreck to play for the entire team. Well done Safia, but shame on the rest. No clue what Shaun was doing in that final chase."
