Plymouth Argyle have brought in experienced goalkeeper Marko Marosi on a short-term contract until at least January after Conor Hazard was ruled out for 10-12 weeks due to an ankle ligament injury.
Marosi has played more than 300 games of first team football, first for Doncaster Rovers, then Coventry City and most recently Shrewsbury Town. The 30-year-old Slovakian-born shot-stopper completed his move to Argyle in time to be eligible for the Championship clash against Sunderland at Home Park tomorrow, when he will be cover on the substitutes' bench for Dan Grimshaw.
Argyle were able to sign Marosi even though the transfer window is closed because he was a free agent after leaving Shrewsbury earlier this summer. Head coach Wayne Rooney said: "When we knew the severity of Conor’s injury, we moved quickly to bring in a goalkeeper who could strengthen the group.
“We are really pleased to bring Marko to the club, he has good experience and the attributes we were looking for. He will challenge Daniel for the shirt but is also another seasoned professional for our crop of young goalkeepers to learn from as well."
Marosi started his career in English football at Wigan Athletic but did not break into their first team and joined Doncaster in 2014. He went on to make a total of 90 starts and five substitute appearances over five seasons with the South Yorkshire side.
Coventry were the next club for Marosi as he started 61 games in two years, which included 34 during their 2019/20 League One title triumph and 20 in the Championship the following campaign.
Marosi then joined Shrewsbury in 2021. He made a total of 147 appearances over the next three seasons before leaving the Shropshire club when his contract expired this summer.
Argyle director of football Neil Dewsnip said: "I am delighted we have managed to bring Marko to the club, initially on a short-term deal. He has really good EFL experience having played close to 250 games and joins us off the back of a really positive time at Shrewsbury.
"He will join up with the group immediately and go straight into the squad for Saturday's game. We all wish him well for his time with Argyle.”
