BLU Pure XL coming soon: 6-inch QHD display, fingerprint sensor, octa-core Helio X10 + more for $349

UPDATE: BLU has officially announced the new device. The device is made predominantly from metal, like many of the current high-end phones on the market. BLU has partnered with MediaTek and claims the Helio X10 chip being used to power the new smartphone is among the fastest chips available on the market, and scores some of the highest benchmark results on AnTuTu. What’s more, the camera on the back is covered by sapphire crystal while the 8MP front camera is wide angle, to fit more in to your selfies…

Key Specs include:

  • 64GB internal memory plus 3GB RAM.
  • Solid aluminium metal design with polished chamfered edges in 9.6mm design.
  • All-day battery life with huge 3500mah long standby, and HD video playback for over seven hours.
  • 9V/2A quick charger; four hours of phone call talk time with a 10 minute charge. 10 mins to 15%, 30 mins to 43%.
  • 24-bit/192kHz audio quality, Smart PA, dual stereo speakers, DTS sound.
  • Device unlock with a simple fingerprint touch in less than 10ms. Also, lock the files on device quickly and safely.
  • Available in gold and grey color options.

BLU is a company well-known for pushing out budget friendly phones with less-than overwhelming specifications. But that’s all about to change with its upcoming Pure XL. BeauHD on Google+ has managed to get his hands on the device and reveal the specifications of a phone we’re expecting the company to announce at CTIA very soon. Judging on specifications alone, this could be the year’s true flagship killer, if the experience lives up to the spec sheet…

The BLU Pure XL will cost $349 to buy unlocked and SIM-free when it hits the market on September 29. That may seem like a lot of cash for a company that prices itself on low-tier smartphones, but the specs aren’t too dissimilar to those you’re more likely to see on a flagship phablet.

For that $349, you get a device with a huge 6-inch QHD (1440 x 2560) resolution AMOLED display boasting a pixel density of 490ppi and coated in 3rd generation Corning Gorilla Glass. Inside is a beastly octa-core 2GHz Mediatek Helio X10 processor coupled with 3GB RAM. On the back is a 24MP main camera with optical image stabilization, phase detection autofocus on a 1/2.3″ sensor capable of recording 4K video, while the front facing camera boasts 8 megapixels. There’s a generous 64GB internal storage capacity, expandable up to another 64GB via MicroSD. It even has a fingerprint sensor on the back. To keep it going all day, there’s a 3,500mAh battery on the inside.

It runs Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box, and we’re expecting a retail launch to take place on September 29th, although a pre-order page should hopefully go live soon on BLU’s Amazon page, where there are already numerous low-end handsets starting at around $49. As soon as the official press release and store pages have gone live, we’ll be sure to update this article with the information.
