Why is the use of independent (third-party) operators in hotel management on the rise? The answer is to be found in the alignment of interests between the owner and the operator. Independent operators allow hotel owners to have better control over the management of their assets, clearer operational visibility, and more contractual flexibility; all designed to drive high returns on their investments. The massive growth in the Middle Eastern hospitality sector, especially in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, is attracting many investors/owners who want to be involved in their asset management and decision-making process; however, they might lack the experience, team or time to operate the hotel on their own. Enter independent operators who have the required skillset and regional knowledge to manage the hotel alongside a hyper focus on profitability, working for and with the owner.

Question: How does Aleph enforce sustainability reporting across all the hotels in your portfolio? Answer: We don’t. We have replaced reporting and checklists with shared experiences and storytelling. Our quarterly calls, attended by Sustainability Pioneers and hotel GMs, are seen as an important part of hotel operations. Having created a common language around ESG, all the hotels share ideas and experiences with each other. We talk about what you CAN do as opposed to dictating standards which might be unattainable under certain circumstances.
