نبذة عنا

OUR MISSION A consulting career entails preparation that extends beyond interviews. A theoretical approach, unclear motivation, or lack of guidance tend to prematurely derail the consulting career dreams of even the best candidates, leaving them unhappy and their professional growth stunted. At Being Consultant, our mission is to: Empower both aspiring and experienced consultants with the knowledge, tools, and guidance they need to build happy consulting careers. MEET OUR FOUNDER & CHIEF MENTOR - GAURAV BHOSLE The journey from considering a consulting career till becoming a successful consultant, is unpredictable. Picking catastrophic projects to work on. Playing the system incorrectly. Our Founder and Chief Mentor Gaurav has seen it all in his own experience as a consultant, and mentoring 1000s in the last decade. Being Consultant aspires to leverage all that experience and wisdom for the benefit of the current and next generation of consultants, so that they may steer their career towards thriving and not just surviving. • Former McKinsey consultant and ICF-Certified Career Coach • Distinguished career journey – being a decorated consultant, founder of successful startups, top-ranked Career Coach • Mentees across 75+ countries and 5 continents

𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝟭𝘀𝘁-𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲 The mentoring ecosystem is one of the most valuable tools you can leverage when you’re new to consulting. But often, due to lack of knowledge, fear of hierarchy, or simple misconceptions, new joiners fail to tap into its full potential. Here’s how to make the most out of your mentor-mentee relationship: 1️⃣ Choose a Relevant Mentor Don’t settle if the mentor assigned to you isn’t a good fit. Whether they’re too busy, located in another geography, or focused on a different industry, it’s important to find someone who can truly guide you. If needed, don’t hesitate to request a change. 2️⃣ Have a Transparent Intro Session Kick off your mentorship by being honest. Share your background, aspirations, fears, and the areas where you need help. The more your mentor knows about you, the better they can support your growth. 3️⃣ Set Up Regular Meetings Don’t just reach out when things go wrong. Establish a regular cadence for check-ins. This will help build a consistent relationship and ensure you’re not waiting until a crisis to get advice. 4️⃣ Keep Your Mentor Updated Be proactive in keeping your mentor informed about your progress—client appreciation emails, not getting project staffing, training sessions you are attending, or setbacks in your projects. This helps them stay engaged and ready to help when needed. 5️⃣ Prep Your Mentor for Appraisal Time Mentors, especially principals or partners, are super busy and often manage 8-10 mentees. If they’re going to advocate for your appraisal, make their life easier. Create a one-pager pitch highlighting why you deserve a good rating or promotion. Discuss this with them so they can present your case in the best light possible. 💬 What has been your experience with mentoring? 👇 Share your insights or tips below! #beingconsultant #MBB #consultingcareers #mentorship

𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗨𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗕𝗖𝗚 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶𝘅 𝗶𝗻 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲? 𝗜 𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲. Management and strategy tools aren’t just for businesses—they can be applied to individual lives, careers, and even everyday decisions. Take the BCG Matrix —a simple yet brilliant tool rooted in portfolio theory. It categorizes opportunities into four quadrants: Stars, Cash Cows, Question Marks, and Dogs, based on growth and market share. The same logic works wonders outside of business too. Here’s how I’ve seen some applications: 1️⃣ 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗟𝗶𝗳𝗲: 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 Think of your daily activities as your "personal portfolio." 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘀: Activities that bring high satisfaction and growth—like pursuing hobbies or spending quality time with loved ones. 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝘄𝘀: Tasks that are stable and essential, like maintaining good health habits or managing finances. 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘀: New interests or skills you’re exploring but aren’t sure about yet. 𝗗𝗼𝗴𝘀: Activities that drain energy without adding value (scrolling endlessly on social media, perhaps?). By categorizing my time this way, I focus on nurturing Stars and maintaining Cash Cows while reevaluating Question Marks and eliminating Dogs. 2️⃣ 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿: 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 Your career, too, is a portfolio of skills and roles. 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘀: High-value skills that are in demand and where you excel. 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝘄𝘀: Established strengths you can rely on for consistent results. 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘀: New competencies you’re building but haven’t mastered. 𝗗𝗼𝗴𝘀: Skills that are outdated or irrelevant in your industry. I’ve used this framework to decide where to double down (Stars), where to optimize (Cash Cows), and what to let go of (Dogs). 3️⃣ 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀: 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 When leading teams or evaluating opportunities, I’ve used this framework to assess products, projects, or even markets. 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘀: High-growth, high-potential ventures that need investment. 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝘄𝘀: Revenue-generating projects that fund other initiatives. 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘀: Emerging ideas that could become Stars—or Dogs. 𝗗𝗼𝗴𝘀: Legacy products or initiatives that no longer deliver value. The matrix helps ensure resources are directed where they matter most. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 Strategy tools are not just for boardrooms. Applying structures and framework helps you cut through the noise and focus on what truly matters. So, have you used BCG metrics in your life? Where do you see its applications? I'd love to hear your thoughts! P.S. To know more about BCG Matrix : https://lnkd.in/d2SPpEDP #beingconsultant #strategy #management #BCG #Prioritization

𝟑 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬' 𝐜𝐡𝐮𝐫𝐧 High attrition rates at top consulting firms, especially among high performers, is a growing concern. These are the very people who drive impact, lead change, and embody the future of the industry. As someone who’s been coaching some of these top consultants, here’s my take on 3 key focus areas for Partners to retain top talent and create a thriving, happy consulting industry: 1️⃣ 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐦-𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬. Selling is important, but junior consultants joined to learn from your expertise. Dedicate time to problem-solving with them—it’s how they’ll grow, and it’s what keeps them engaged and inspired. 2️⃣ 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐥𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫. Managers are the backbone of the consulting pyramid, holding the ship together. Don’t overpressurize them. Support them, give them operational freedom, and groom them for leadership. Empowered managers will pass that same mentorship to the consultants they lead, who are your real foot soldiers. 3️⃣ 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲. Revenue pressures often lead to taking any work that comes your way, but this can crush consultant aspirations. Imagine a top MBA graduate joining your team with dreams of strategy consulting, only to end up doing back-to-back PMO support projects. Shape better experiences that align with their career goals—it’s worth the investment. This is my wishlist for Partners in consulting firms—a future where teams feel valued, managers are empowered, and consultants are motivated to stay and thrive. 🌟 Share your thoughts below! 👇 Comment with your ideas or experiences. 🔄 Share this post to spark a broader conversation. 👍 Like if you agree with these points! #Beingconsultant #Managementconsulting #McKinsey #BCG #Bain #Leadership #TalentRetention

Over the years, I've structured complex issues on: - A napkin over coffee - The back of a receipt during a quick chat - Even on toilet paper during unexpected inspiration Why does this work? It brings Clarity. When you structure a problem, it becomes manageable. Whether it's a career dilemma or a business challenge, clarity is half the battle. Let's kick off 2025 with this challenge: Make it a habit. When faced with a decision or challenge, ask: - What's the root issue? - How can I break this into actionable parts? - What's the simplest way to visualize it? Use anything at hand—a napkin, your notes app, or even your hand. The tool doesn’t matter; building the habit of clarity does. What’s the first problem you'll tackle with this method? Comment or DM me—I’d love to hear your thoughts or see your napkin diagrams! Let's start solving. P.S. A big shoutout to all the cafe staff who generously lend me their pens and extra paper — you are the unsung heroes of my problem solving sessions. Without you, my ideas would fade into oblivion! #beingconsultant #ProblemSolving #2025 #habits #careers

Broadly, consulting stints can be categorized into two strategies: 1. Consulting Lifers: Those committed to spending a significant part of their careers in consulting or advisory roles, with the goal of making it to Partner. 2. Consulting Springboarders: Those who view consulting as a launchpad—a place to learn the consulting toolkit (mindset, skillset, toolset), build an elite network, and gain prestigious brands on their CV, before transitioning into industry roles or starting their own ventures. Over the years, I’ve noticed a growing number of consultants adopting 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐲 𝟐. There’s no right or wrong approach here.
