But It’s what you do with the data that’s paramount. Be specific in your testing and understand why you are testing certain things. Don’t be data-rich but system poor. Build strong systems and processes to act on the data and enhance performance and identify ways to improve.   • THE POWER PHASE BEGINS - 🛡️⚔️ The power phase in periodization is a critical stage that focuses on translating maximal strength gains into explosive power specific to an athlete's sport. During this phase, training typically involves low volume, consisting of 3-6 sets of 2-5 repetitions, executed with maximum effort and speed. This approach aims to recruit fast-twitch muscle fibers and enhance the rate of force production, which is essential for athletic performance. The power phase serves as a bridge between strength development and competition readiness, ensuring that athletes maintain their strength while improving their power output, ultimately leading to better performance in their respective disciplines Becky Barlow you are incredible!!!! When we talk about holistic coaching, we’re diving deep into a 360-degree perspective that encompasses everything from physical skills to mental resilience and emotional well-being. What Does Holistic Coaching Mean ❓ Think of it this way: every athlete is a unique puzzle. By using a holistic approach as a coach, we look at all the pieces—strengths, weaknesses, motivations, lifestyle, personal challenges, and work-life balance (REAL LIFE) and by understanding the bigger picture, we can tailor our coaching to help individuals grow not just as athletes, but as a humans.   • Following on from yesterday's Mental Conditioning post, we came across this great enlightening study That focuses on the mental health of athletes and how their social connections can help improve it. (T for Team in our most in Vertex Performance MMOST principal and point number 4. in yesterday's post) The study suggests that being part of a team and having strong relationships with teammates can provide emotional support, especially during tough times or transitions in their careers. The authors argue that coaches and sports leaders should understand these social dynamics to better support athletes' mental well-being. Overall, the study emphasizes the importance of teamwork and social identity in helping athletes stay mentally healthy. Key takeaways from the study: ⭐ Social identities can serve as vital psychological resources that enhance athletes' mental health, providing support during challenging times.     ITS NOT ALL WINS & HIGHS!!!! 🧠 The Importance of Mental Conditioning in Sports In a previous post, we discussed our MMOST principle (Mindset, Organisation, Self-care and Team) , At Vertex Performance Mindset is one of the four corners of our development model. As a coach, I can't emphasize enough the critical role that mental conditioning plays in an athlete's success and overall Mindset. While physical training is essential, the mental aspect of sports is equally important for enhancing resilience and focus. Athletes face numerous stressors, from performance pressure to injuries and setbacks. Developing mental resilience allows them to navigate these challenges effectively. Here are some key techniques and strategies I encourage my athletes to adopt: 1. 📈 Cultivating a Growth Mindset Encourage athletes to embrace challenges and view setbacks as opportunities for growth is vital. 2. Setting SMART Goals Provide clarity and direction. helping athletes focus on what they can control, enhancing their confidence and commitment to improvement. 3. 👀 Visualization Techniques Mental imagery is a powerful tool. Athletes can visualize their performance, which not only reduces anxiety but also boosts confidence. 4. 🤗 Building Support Systems (Your Team - the T in our MMOST principle) Encouraging athletes to develop strong relationships with coaches, teammates, and mentors creates a network of support. 5. ⚖ Emphasizing Life Balance Promoting a balanced lifestyle helps athletes manage stress. Engaging in non-sport activities allows them to recharge mentally and emotionally, ultimately enhancing their performance. It's important to remember that sports, like life, are not all wins and highs.
