"Social stigma still overshadows 0.0 drinks for Gen Z, even as Diageo, Heineken and AB InBev bet big on alcohol-free options." https://lnkd.in/ddkvurzp AR Non drinking people are stigmatised not the drinks, often thanks to clichés perpetuated in alcohol promotion. It is unclear, meanwhile, whether alcohol-free beer is reducing alcohol drinking. A cynic might wonder if it was instead tapping into the soft drink business, while also often advertising an alcohol brand. This would explain why alcohol-centric multinationals are happy to promote it. More on this possibility here https://lnkd.in/dtCau7zS The research aligns with a new Heineken ad campaign which "challenges the prejudices around the consumption of alcohol-free beer”. The "0.0" suffix means the Heineken brand may be promoted in spots off limits to the unmodified alcohol brand. Global alcohol brand owners make themselves out to be victim of a problem they help create. Welcome to 2025. https://lnkd.in/dgAYeg34

"Most consumers [surveyed in five countries] say it is acceptable to have no- or low-alcohol drinks when they go out but some opt for alcohol anyway because of social pressure, according to research by Heineken and the University of Oxford."
