🏆 ERC Consolidator Grant Propels Georg Winter’s Groundbreaking Work Known for developing small molecules that neutralize cancer-causing proteins, Georg Winter’s latest European Research Council (ERC)-funded CoG project, GE|NEomorph, takes his research to the next level. Instead of degrading cancer proteins, his innovative approach targets transcription factors—key regulators of gene activity that are often out of reach for conventional drugs. With €1.9 million in funding over the next five years, this project aims to reprogram the genetic activity of cancer cells using tailor-made molecules, opening up new possibilities for groundbreaking therapies. Georg Winter’s exceptional contributions to chemical biology have already been recognized with an ERC Starting Grant in 2020, and his research has led to over 30 publications in top-tier journals like Science (https://bit.ly/4ggOkmZ) and Nature (https://lnkd.in/dDnkGb7z). In addition, he is a co-founder of the CeMM Spin-Off company Proxygen (https://bit.ly/4eKoAhO), founded in 2020, that is among the 15 most innovative young biotech firms globally, according to the Fierce Biotech Report. This new ERC grant solidifies Georg Winter’s position as a global leader in the fight against cancer and paves the way for new targeted therapies.
