The second day of the IEEE-International Telecommunication Union kicked off with a keynote from Norela Constantinescu from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), followed by an exciting discussion on finance, trade and development which highlighted the urgency to handle, the need for integration of all these aspects and a re-think on green finance, trade-procurement and development. Thanks to Nicholas C. Niggli, Aik Hoe Lim from World Trade Organization, Rafik Feki from UNIDO, Holger Berg from the Wuppertal Institute for Climate, Environment and Energy for such insightful contributions, and of course to Bruno Meyer for the moderation. The last panel of the Symposium was all about the realities and challenges of policy adoption and technology implementation. I had the honor and pleasure to moderate the wonderful Stéphane LEFRANC, Sustainability VP at Capgemini, David Mazur, General Counsel R&D Nestlé, Bertrand Deprez, Head of Government Affairs GE Vernova, Paolo Gemma, Senior Expert, Huawei, Ekkehard Ernst, Chief, Macro-economic policies and jobs, International Labour Organization, Zhongxin Chen, Senior Information Technology Officer FAO and @Marcelo Lampowski from ICLEI. They provided examples on technologies and their implementation challenges, talked about the impact of policy and technologies in the business decisions, product design and R&D, workforce planning, the role of digitization in the transformation and the need for standards and other governance tools to avoid the risks of fragmentation and support industry and local governments in their green and green digital transformation. Thanks to you all!

Happy about the outcomes of the first IEEE - International Telecommunication Union Symposium on Achieving Climate Resilience in Geneva. We spent two intensive days with representatives of seven agencies of the United Nations , European Commission, World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO, OECD - OCDE, International Labour Organization, academia and industry to assess the net impact of technology to address issues related to climate, including food, water, biodiversity and decarbonization. Thanks to Amir H. Delju, Erik van Ingen, Golestan (Sally) Radwan, Edward Kwakwa, Dr. Bilel Jamoussi for setting the scene, as well as all the inspiring contributions related to Research, Technology and Standards; Education and Skills; Finance, Trade and Development; and Technology Implementation that will be the basis of a joint collaborative technology roadmap. Special thanks to Irene Kitsara and Reyna Ubeda for an excellent organization. https://lnkd.in/dUERB4Wc https://lnkd.in/dzRPXXHT

We had a great first day at the IEEE-ITU Symposium on Achieving Climate Resilience with some outstanding speakers from International Organizations, Industry, Standards and Policy-making. Tune in tomorrow for more and follow our page.
Assistant Director General, Global Challenges and Partnerships Sector at World Intellectual Property Organization
Today, alongside World Intellectual Property Organization – WIPO Director General Daren Tang, I spoke at the IEEE-ITU Symposium on Achieving Climate Resilience, which was hosted at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. This important event, organized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and ITU with support from WIPO, brings together global experts to discuss the role of technology and innovation in driving climate resilience and policy integration. In my remarks, I told the audience that a collaborative roadmap to enhance global climate resilience and environmental efficiency is one sought-after outcome of the event. WIPO GREEN, our online platform connecting developers and seekers of green technologies, plays a key role in these efforts, I said. It currently features over 130,000 technologies, ranging from renewable energy systems to water purification technologies. Most of these technologies are ready to be deployed, and many are already being used globally. Our on-the-ground acceleration projects in Asia and Latin America help provide green technology solutions to those at the frontlines of climate change, like farmers and small business owners. These successes remind us of what is possible when innovation meets the right platforms and partnerships. By fostering collaboration, aligning initiatives, and accelerating action, we can amplify our impact and move closer to achieving our common goals. I believe that “more” and “faster” will be key words in ensuring that we can achieve our local and global goals. I look forward to working together with all the partners at the conference on an action oriented roadmap which will be the outcome of the event. #WIPO #IP #ClimateAction Credit: ITU/D. Woldu
