#Regenerative #food in #Italy. A taste of a healthy future! I was honoured to give the #keynote yesterday in #Parma at the EIT Food workshop on Shaping the Future of #RegenerativeAgriculture. This brought together #farmers, #businesses, #financiers and technical specialists from across Italy to work towards a regenerative agriculture #roadmap for 2025 and beyond. Italy is synonymous with quality cuisine and is top ranked for #regenerative and #organicagriculture. But most agriculture still follows the old model that guzzles water, leaches chemicals and simplifies natural systems. This is no longer acceptable. Italy is already hit hard by #climatechange. The Emilio Romagna region had three 100 year scale #floods in the last two years alone. Sicily has just come through the worst drought in a century. And the prediction is for much longer and deeper #heatwaves and #deluges. Regenerative agriculture can help #soils to store more #water, brings back #diversity and #pollinators and allows for a much more #resilient system. It should be standard for all #landscapes, #catchments and #supplysheds along with #forest and #wetland restoration. This is starting to happen. We heard from Nevarra360, a landscape collaboration between food companies and farmers in northern Spain. And we were hosted at the very beautiful Davines Group | Certified B Corp headquarters and the European Regenerative Organic Centre. EROC is an inspiring #research and #training hub with 188 demonstration plots - well worth a visit. Standard agriculture is feeding us all but eating the planet. Regenerative and organic food production lets us give back to nature and #buildresilience in a #turbulentworld. Thank you Italy for this vision of food that also feeds and replenishes nature! N+ is out! Yesterday at the wonderful Nature Finance UK Summit in London, we announced our collaboration with Mercer to build a #Nature Positive #Landscapes Facility. It was a delight to explain N+ with Angelika Delen, Mercer Head of Impact Solutions, in an interview with conference host Bruce Howard. This is super exciting and a major shift for us. Our goal is to supercharge impact through funding large-scale solutions for #biodiversity, #climate and #communities. Commercial finance means that results have to be guaranteed which is something very new for the #conservation world. Brilliant to attend the Nature Finance evening reception on Seizing Opportunities in Peatland Finance yesterday. Keynote speakers, experts and investors alike came together to discuss the financial potential of restoring Scotland’s peatlands. With speakers including Hannah Wood (UBS Optimus Foundation), Graham Neville (NatureScot), Paul Leadbitter of North Pennine Peat Partnership and Landscape Finance Lab’s Paul Chatterton, the discussion highlighted the rapid growth of the UK’s nature market and explored how investor businesses and nature organisations alike can take advantage to progress global climate ambitions.
