Just recently, Marcel Spechtler and Karolina Tan attended the 2024 DFI Portfolio Conference hosted by EBRD in London, joining over 50 representatives from more than 25 Development Finance Institutions. It was a valuable opportunity to dive into the topic of portfolio management, with key insights shared on challenges and advancements in this field. 🌍💼 A particular highlight was the panel discussions on current #macroeconomic developments and emerging trends in portfolio management, as well as the interactive World Café workshops. "Engaging with peer organizations and sharing lessons learned on portfolio management was incredibly insightful and beneficial. The EBRD team organized an excellent conference with both in-depth sessions and many informal exchanges,” Marcel noted. At the midpoint of the 2030 Agenda, only 15% of the SDG targets are on track. The annual investment gap for the #SDGs in developing countries stands at USD 4 trillion. Mobilising private finance, as outlined in SDG 17, is crucial to bridge this gap. 📊 Development finance institutions, such as OeEB, play a key role in mobilising private investors. Despite multiple crises since 2019, our activities, especially in climate finance through #RenewableEnergy investments, have delivered strong results. The Gutmann OeEB Impact Fund has mobilised EUR 72 million from private investors. Initiated by OeEB and Gutmann, the fund invests in small and medium-sized companies and financial institutions in developing countries. Since its launch, it has reached 5.92 million underserved customers and is expected to create over 268,000 local jobs. Sweet news! 🍫🎉 OeEB recently signed a second long-term investment of EUR 10 million with the confectionery and snack manufacturer Jaffa Crvenka, Serbia. Jaffa, based in Crvenka, Vojvodina, is the town’s largest employer with 937 staff members (more than half of whom are women). Founded in 1975, the company initially made pastries, but soon became renowned for Jaffa Cakes. 🏭   The credit line will be directed toward production investments and environmental measures, focusing on enhancing resource and #energyefficiency, reducing waste and optimizing processes at Jaffa’s Crvenka facility. The goal is to boost production capacity, reduce plastic waste, resolve bottlenecks and introduce advanced packaging solutions. 🤝 We are pleased to announce the signing of a sustainability focused loan of USD 25 million with Q Collection Pte Ltd, Singapore and its subsidiary SQ Celsius Limited, Bangladesh. 🧵 Founded in 1993 by former World Bank executive Mr. Muhammad Ghulam Faruq, SQ Group has grown into one of Bangladesh's leading garment manufacturers, now employing around 19,000 people, half of whom are women. 🌱 This facility will support the expansion of SQ Group's business activities, including #GreenCapex measures (e.g. ETP/wastewater treatment, rainwater harvesting, solar) and finance working capital requirements.
