🌟 Celebrating Women Entrepreneurs: The Awa Prize 2024! 🌟 Yesterday, we've celebrated the Prix Awa 2024, a fantastic initiative by Enabel that shines a well-deserved spotlight on women entrepreneurs who are breaking barriers, defying odds, and making an extraordinary impact. The Prix Awa is more than just an award—it’s a celebration of courage, innovation, and resilience. It recognises women who are driving sustainable growth and creating opportunities in their communities, embodying the essence of gender equality in entrepreneurship. At BIO, promoting gender equality isn’t just a goal—it’s a core pillar of our investment strategy. Empowering women entrepreneurs is key to driving economic transformation and fostering inclusive, sustainable development. The Prix Awa aligns perfectly with our commitment to impact targets, particularly our efforts to: 💡 Increase access to financing for women entrepreneurs 💡 Foster leadership opportunities for women 💡 Champion inclusive business practices in every sector we support Seeing the passion and determination of the nominees at the Prix Awa is a reminder of why we do what we do. Together, with Enabel, we’re helping to create a world where women have the tools and support to succeed, not just for themselves, but for their communities and beyond. #PrixAwa2024 #WomenEntrepreneurs #GenderEquality #BIOInvest #TeamBelgium #SustainableDevelopment
#women contribute to the economy directly through engagement in economic activities including formal work and #entrepreneurship, and indirectly through other contributions including taking on a disproportionate share of unpaid care work. According to #UNWomen, closing gender gaps could: 👉 boost GDP per capita by 20 per cent. 👉 create almost 300 million jobs by 2035. 👉 investment in the care sector could create almost three times as many jobs as the same investment in construction and produce 30 per cent less greenhouse gas emissions. 📣 That's why investing in women is smart business, and that is why we need to provide role models to those young girls with dream and aspirations! I was honoured yesterday to be invited by Enabel to deliver a prize during the #awaprize2024 to female entrepreneur Janet Kabugho from #uganda 🇺🇬 in the category Scale-up. What inspired me about her story is how she used her skills and legacy to lift herself out of #poverty. Then she founded the Skills Centrum Rwenzori to provide economic opportunities to women through the production of handicrafts. Congratulations Janet! We hope to see you at BIO - the Belgian Investment Company for Developing Countries in the future when you grow your company.
