Driving the global clean energy transition for a low-carbon future
Info
REEEP was established in 2002 as an international multilateral partnership to accelerate the uptake of clean energy technologies in developing and emerging markets, promote modern energy access, mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and support low carbon development. For over twenty years, REEEP has been a driving force in the global clean energy transition by accelerating the deployment of reliable and affordable clean energy solutions in low- and middle-income countries for the benefit of last-mile customers and the most vulnerable populations. Through a combination of financial instruments, capacity building, facilitation of stakeholder cooperation and technical assistance, REEEP’s programmes fill financing and knowledge gaps, enabling private sector players to operate successfully in frontier markets. It works closely with stakeholders across the public and private sectors to ensure holistic programme design and implementation are rooted in local needs, decreasing risk in clean energy investment and facilitating long-lasting ecosystem change by defining key criteria and indicators that incentivise longevity, while balancing the level of risk for public and private finance, as well as focusing on understanding market determinants, adapting to changing circumstances, building local capacity as well as informing and influencing stakeholder decisions and approaches to market development in a targeted manner.

In a world of climate change-induced calamities, regional instabilities and high interest rates, it was time for self-reflection for Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa. Three years after funding the first project, we are thrilled to announce the publication of the revised Theory of Change! Under the leadership of Nefco, REEEP participated in an inspiring one-day workshop to brainstorm the programme’s goals, activities and expected outcomes. Together, we’ve created a framework that drives sustainable change and makes a lasting difference in the communities we serve! All experiences, ideas, risks and assumptions were distilled into a comprehensive plan outlining the BGFA strategic vision and the steps we are taking to achieve meaningful impact. Key highlights include: - To close the energy access gap, there is a need for catalytic public funding to de-risk private sector finance and foster self-sustaining energy access markets over the medium term. 🚀 - Distributed renewable energy (DRE) markets not only expand energy access but also create broader social, economic and environmental benefits. 🌱 - BGFA targets 8.6 million active and satisfied end-users through the upscaling and improved business management practices of a portfolio of Energy Service Providers. 🏡 - Plans to leverage additional co-financing, including from commercial sources, by overcoming investment barriers through policy and regulatory changes and reducing business risks for ESPs. 🔑 - A significant portion of BGFA’s technical assistance to companies is focused on helping them meet Nefco policies and donor requirements, especially during the early stages of implementation. While these requirements align with international financial institutions, they also prepare ESPs for future investors. 💼 We invite you to explore the BGFA Theory of Change and join REEEP on this transformative journey. We’re so proud to have helped shape the revised Theory of Change and can’t wait to see the impact it will achieve! 💪 👉 Read more about it here: https://lnkd.in/dHwMecnn #SDG7 #EnergyAccess #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy #EnergyTransition #SustainableDevelopment #ClimateAction #ClimateFinance #TransformativeImpact #ClimateResilient Nefco - the Nordic Green Bank Beyond the Grid Fund for Africa NIRAS USAID Norad - Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation Sida Udenrigsministeriet Picture Credit: Jason J Mulikita
