‼️ Despite rising global energy demands, approximately 675 million people still lack access to electricity. However, India's clean energy journey offers some hope. 🇮🇳 India's progress—electrifying all villages by 2018 and setting an ambitious goal of 500 GW renewable capacity by 2030—serves as a model to change energy further and faster. 📍 Dar es Salaam, Tanzania The Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit, hosted by Government of Tanzania, African Development Bank Group and The World Bank with support from GEAPP, The Rockefeller Foundation, Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) and others, was filled with impactful moments and many quotes that captured a spirit targeting action with stakeholders from across the continent, including nearly 20 Heads of State. ⚡️We saw 45 countries endorse the Dar es Salaam Declaration, an effort championed by our own Joseph N. and 12 countries sign energy compacts. It was clear that everybody needs to take action to change energy. From the support on stage and off by our GEAPP Leadership Council (GLC) members to our partners, the Alliance ✨ is helping make a difference in helping power energy for more than 300 million people. 🟢 Happy clean energy day (and the founding anniversary of our friends and partners at International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA))! We're celebrating this day the only way we know how: showcasing stories of how clean energy is impacting people and planet. Uzochukwu Mbamalu is the co-founder of not only one, but 2️⃣ TWO 2️⃣ clean energy businesses helping to change energy in Nigeria: Manamuz Electric: addresses post-harvest loss by deploying renewable energy-powered cold chains. They support broader goals of energy security, food security, and economic resilience. 💪 🧊 Coldbox Store: drives impact by creating a cold economy through refrigerated aggregation centers, which generates wealth for users while making infrastructure investments in solar mini-grids, cold chains, and Agritech bankable. Alongside his friend and co-creator in change, Charles Aliozo, R.Eng, these efforts are delivering real impact with clean energy for people and planet. Both of these two are examples of the talent and expertise that calls Nigeria -and the rest of the continent- home, showing the power of investing in clean energy for people and planet. 🌐Although we're not in Davos this week for the World Economic Forum annual meetings, we know our Alliance is showing up to talk about the importance of clean energy for people and planet. Radical collaboration is critical to achieving our ambitious goals of sustainable livelihoods, averted carbon emissions and new and improved green energy connections in emerging economies. 💪 We've seen ⭐our Alliance ⭐ and our GEAPP Leadership Council are helping further our movement and we know others have taken note. Changing energy starts with communities. ⚡️ 🇸🇬Singapore, our homebase for coordinated clean energy transitions in south-east asia, hosts a number of GEAPP partners, thought leaders, philanthropies and others who are accelerating clean energy transitions in the region. To help build our community stronger, our CEO Woochong Um, met with local philanthropic leaders at Asia Philanthropy Circle and Philanthropy Asia Alliance who are driving climate action, but relatively new to energy-related topics. By learning from experience exchange and capacity building localized to the region, we walked away knowing a little bit better how integral people are to changing energy - and that through radical collaboration we can drive change further and faster. Our immediate next steps? Unlocking philanthropic funds and other financial resources to accelerate the just energy transition. 🤝 Knowing the power of collaboration, we took some time to visit with our partners at the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and Asian Development Bank (ADB) to share updates on our shared effort: Financing Asia’s Transition Partnership (FAST-P). FAST-P is an example of our new favorite teamwork: public-private-philanthropic partnership. Together, we are working to mobilize up to $5 billion to de-risk and finance green projects in Asia. Taking these exchanges further, Ravi Menon, Singapore's Climate Ambassador, emphasized Singapore’s opportunity to mobilize private capital for climate action, citing blended finance and carbon markets as innovative mechanisms to further our impact in the region. By increasing our efforts on empowering and leveraging our ✨Alliance✨, we’re using our global portfolio to continue to grow our Alliance, strengthen our partner communities and unlock change through innovative solutions.
