🔔𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐈𝐒𝐎 𝐓𝐒 𝟏𝟗𝟖𝟕𝟎: On November 28, #UNIDO hosted a webinar to introduce a joint ISO-UNIDO Guide, designed to clarify the #ISO’s #TechnicalSpecification for assessing greenhouse gas emissions across the #hydrogen (H2) value chain, ensuring professionals & policymakers can effectively understand and apply it. 📍Speakers from partner organization (UNIDO, ISO - International Organization for Standardization, Hydrogen Council, Hydrogen Europe, IPHE (International Partnership for Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in the Economy)) provided their insights on the technical specification and highlighted the value of the Guide: ✅ Petra Schwager: Hydrogen has a great potential to drive sustainable industrialization, particularly in developing and transition economies. #Standards are crucial for enabling fair trade and ensuring no country is left behind in the hydrogen economy.   ✅ Noelia Garcia Nebra: ISO TS 19870 enhances transparency and comparability across hydrogen markets while complementing other ISO standards on environmental assessment management. We welcome our collaboration with UNIDO. Our joint Guide introduces the technical specification, highlights its practical applications, ensuring that stakeholders across the value chain can understand the specification & implement its requirements effectively.   ✅ Laurent ANTONI Carbon #footprint is what matters for climate change, and that's why we need to be colour-blind and agree on how to effectively measure and quantify the emissions in the H2 supply chain.   ✅ Maximilian Kūhn, PhD: Aligned with European goals, the standard will likely play an important baseline for regulatory revisions, helping hydrogen markets thrive.   ✅ Daria Nochevnik: The methodology builds on years of collaboration between experts around the world and represents a very hard-earned global consensus on GHG emissions assessment. It fosters investor confidence & supports #certification schemes essential for bankable H2 projects. 🌟European Hydrogen Week is a flagship event for the hydrogen industry in Europe and one of the largest hydrogen gatherings worldwide. It is an important platform where key insights, trends & practices shaping the European hydrogen landscape—and beyond—are explored. Every year, our UNIDO team is happy to participate in this event—sharing insights and experiences from The Global Programme for Hydrogen in Industry, contributing to panel discussions, forging new collaborations, and advancing ideas for joint projects. Luis Umanzor, Margherita Tenedini, and Christophe Yvetot represented the #UNIDO #Hydrogen Team in Brussels, and participated in the following events: ✅ 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐛𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠: 𝐀𝐧 𝐄𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (High-Level Policy Conference): The discussion addressed opportunities and challenges linked to #carbonpricing and the strategic significance of Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (#CBAM). ✔️ Luis Umanzor, highlighting the impact of CBAM and potential risks, stressed the need for capacity building, technical assistance, and access to green technologies, along with financial support, to ensure equitable decarbonization and prevent economic disparities. ✅ 𝐍𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐩𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐔-𝐀𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚 𝐂𝐨𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐇𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐧 (by Hydrogen Europe & African Hydrogen Partnership (AHP)): The session focused on #EU-#Africa collaboration, discussing policy actions and investment mechanisms to advance clean hydrogen. ✔️ Luis Umanzor presented UNIDO’s experiences in supporting the local application of hydrogen in Africa. ✅ 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐑&𝐈 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 (by #IPHE and Mission Innovation): This session discussed common challenges, opportunities, and collaborative efforts needed to advance hydrogen technologies globally. ✔️ Luis Umanzor shared UNIDO’s experience in facilitating hydrogen projects in developing countries, and emphasized how international organizations can support knowledge transfer in hydrogen technologies. ✅ 𝐅𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐇𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐧 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞: Representatives from the public & private sectors (incl. Hydrogen Europe and Hydrogen Council) discussed activities and achievements of the 𝑰𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍 𝑯𝒚𝒅𝒓𝒐𝒈𝒆𝒏 𝑻𝒓𝒂𝒅𝒆 𝑭𝒐𝒓𝒖𝒎 (with #UNIDO serving as its secretariat) and exchanged insights on regulatory frameworks, infrastructure, sustainability, and strategic trade partnerships for hydrogen trade within Europe and beyond. 🔔 The European Hydrogen Week was a perfect platform for formalizing our #partnership relations with the Clean Hydrogen Mission of Mission Innovation by signing a Joint Declaration (Piero Venturi and Christophe Yvetot) 👏 Congratulations to the organizers of European Hydrogen Week—it was a valuable experience, and we’re looking forward to the 2025 edition! 𝐔𝐧𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐲𝐝𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐉𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: The Hydrogen Declaration Receives Endorsements! 📍At COP29, further steps were taken to scale up renewable and low-carbon hydrogen technologies. The UNIDO team was proud to support the Presidency of #COP29 #Azerbaijan in drafting, promoting, and negotiating its #Hydrogen #Declaration. 📍Launched on 15 November during the High-Level Ministerial Meeting on Energy Mitigation Initiatives 📍 #Commitment: ✅ Accelerate the decarbonization of existing hydrogen production from unabated fossil fuels while scaling up the production of renewable, clean, zero-emission, and low-carbon hydrogen. ✅ Scale up demand and deployment in hard-to-decarbonize sectors. 📍Endorsement (as of 22 November): ✔️52 countries ✔️29 private sector entities  ✔️2 financial sector entities 📍 During the high-level meeting, participants highlighted the transformative potential of hydrogen: ✔️ #UK emphasized the hydrogen role in securing future energy systems and clean hydrogen for industrial clusters. ✔️ #Sweden highlighted hydrogen’s importance for steel industries. ✔️ #Brazil underscored hydrogen's role in NDCs, announcing a 6 GW production plant and highlighting opportunities for new jobs and economic growth. ✔️ Financial players like EIB, EBRD pledged long-term financing and technical support. ✔️ Private sector leaders, including Hydrogen Council, Hydrogen Europe, Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company), ACWA Power, and FORTESCUE, shared their commitments to contribute to the hydrogen economy development. ✔️ Some countries, including #Egypt, #Australia, #Morocco, and #Kazakhstan, made announcements on hydrogen projects.
