Earlier this week I asked: What Excel skill do you want to learn? Was the result a surprise? Not really. Power Query is one of the most helpful features of Excel. Here’s why: 1. It helps identify problems with your data 2. It helps you clean it up 3. Lets you combine different data together 4. Automates entire processes 5. It shrinks your file sizes One of our clients phrased it best: "Power Query helps you reduce your carbon footprint". How? You go from 100 MB files to 1 MB files. Now who doesn't want that? If you've never used Power Query: 1. Open your Excel 2. Head to the "Data" tab in the Ribbon. 3. Click on any button in the Get & Transform section and see what happens. Some ideas: - If you have a text file on your device, select "From Text/CSV" and see what happens when you connect to it from Excel. - If you have a large Excel file with lots of data saved on your PC, select: Get Data/From File/From Excel Workbook.
