  • Vision, values, goal-setting and movement - how are they connected? As a Yoga practitioner with over a decade of teaching experience, our facilitator, Ruhee Meghani has experienced first-hand the impact of a short mindfulness or gentle movement practice before a strategy session, team meeting or a planning session. Gentle movement can help unlock mental barriers before goal setting by tapping into the mind-body connection, reducing stress, and enhancing cognitive function. Here’s how: 🧘Movement reduces levels of cortisol (the stress hormone) and increases endorphins, which improve mood and mental clarity. Stress often blocks creative thinking and problem-solving. Gentle movement helps clear that fog, making it easier to focus on goals. 🧠 Physical activity boosts blood flow to the brain, particularly the prefrontal cortex, which is responsible for decision-making, planning, and goal setting. Gentle movement primes this area for better focus and strategic thinking. 🕸Movement stimulates the release of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a protein that supports neuroplasticity—the brain's ability to adapt and form new connections. This enhances creativity and helps break through limiting thought patterns, allowing for a more open-minded approach to goal setting. 🌿Research shows that gentle exercise like Yoga or stretching reduces activity in the amygdala (the brain's fear center) and increases activity in areas that regulate emotions. This creates a calmer mental state, which is crucial for self-reflection and setting meaningful goals. 🌈 Gentle movement encourages mindfulness by focusing on the present moment, reducing distractions, and helping participants tune into their inner thoughts. A mindful state fosters self-awareness, which is essential for setting authentic and achievable goals. 🤸♀️ Sitting for long periods can lead to mental stagnation. Gentle movement reinvigorates the body and mind, creating a sense of momentum that carries over into goal-setting exercises. At Wellbeing Reset 2025, we will be practicing some gentle, accessible movement to help us get into a reflective state, unlock deeper self-awareness and creativity, and approach goal-setting with a calm, clear & energised mindset. 2024 started in the best way possible, with the company of incredible people at the workshop we hosted on Saturday—Wellbeing Reset-Craft Your Wellness Narrative, where we came together to talk about values, purpose, what wellbeing means to each of us, and to set some goals with commitments towards our wellbeing. Here's what the participants had to say: "Ruhee is a fantastic facilitator. Her eloquence, insights, and ability to guide thoughtful and engaging conversations were impressive." "The reflection prompts were thought-provoking and valuable. I also thought that the size of the group was perfect and the group dynamic worked well. I loved the grounding in the beginning and the agreements. I felt like everyone engaged themselves and each other." "Everything - topic, location, the explanation and relation to personal experiences" "The atmosphere, the rooftop, the meditation and guidance, the structure of the course work" Big thanks for Blur Architecture for being our event sponsor, and Melbourne weather for being the MVP.
