About us

Software Solutions for Container Terminal Cranes: AMLab, is a Perth based control systems engineering company that specialises in industrial automation, in particular the delivery of software systems used to monitor and control mobile plant equipment at container terminals, mining and heavy industry. Areas of specialist competence include: - Ship to shore cranes, ARMGs, RTGs, ship loader control systems, production systems, deep analytics, optimisation and automation. - 3D LiDAR applications in heavy industry. Over the years supplying industrial automation systems in ports, mining, minerals and energy sectors, the enormous cost of accidents and inefficiencies have been seen; most significantly, the tragic loss of human life. By exploiting the latest tools and technologies, where adoption lags in conservative heavy industry sectors, we aim to eliminate the dangerous, dirty and dull while maximising productivity. At AMLab we believe in the power of automation to elevate us above doing merely the necessary. We believe in eliminating the wasteful and unfulfilling, freeing us to explore our ingenuity and imagination to tackle challenging and rewarding problems. Guiding everything we do is the pursuit of maximum engagement. We believe removing the tedious and unproductive leads to inspired collaborations and outcomes.

AMLab welcomed the latest round of Interns to the team in November. They will spend the summer working alongside our software engineers as they tackle the challenge of quay crane technology. Jason, James, Sean and Peter all study at Curtin University here in Perth, Western Australia with specialisations in Software Engineering, Mechatronics and Computer Science. As the company continues to grow rapidly, we require a steady intake of talent who bring new skills, ideas and positivity. Fortunately, Perth is home to some amazing universities that produce candidates with the skills and fresh thinking that we need. If you or someone you know is studying Mechatronics, Computer Science or Software Engineering and are keen to do an internship in robotics and machine vision at an innovative and groundbreaking company in 2025, please send us your resume with cover letter to recruitment@amlab.com.au #recruit #internship #interns #Perth #Mechatronics #Engineering #ComputerScience #Curtin #ECU #Murdoch #UWA #University #WesternAustralia #QuayCranes #ports #innovation

    Head of Operations, AMLab

What a privilege today to share a panel with some incredible industry trailblazers to discuss our global growth journeys: Patricia Nordstrom (Plug and Play Tech Center), Tim Levy (Qoria), Intan Oldakowska (Earflo), Chava Berrill (núaTECH) and hosted by Ash Kirvan (Liminal). A good exchange of stories, challenges, and successes from our journeys of scaling businesses across borders. Despite it being clear that different industries require different approaches to global growth, my top takeaway was the little ideas to adapt into AMLab’s approach. I feel incredibly humbled to have been in the room with these folk, but I graciously accept the imposter syndrome in exchange for the connections made—amazing leaders I can now tap for advice as AMLab sails its international growth journey. Follow AMLab to keep in touch with our moving and shaking the container industry! #WestTechFest #WTF2024 #GlobalGrowth #Scaleups

  • Jawn Looi, Co-Founder, and Adam Saunders, Commercial and Finance Manager of AMLab, recently attended TOC Asia in Singapore, which included a tour of the Innovation Centre at PSA's Pasir Panjang container terminal. This premier event, a cornerstone for the container terminal industry, gathers top-tier suppliers, service companies, consultants, and port operators globally. This year's event spotlighted cutting-edge technology, especially AI and automation. A standout panel discussion, "Port 4.0: How Technology is Transforming Port & Terminal Operations," featured industry leaders from global tech companies to port operators, each sharing their unique insights on technological adoption in the container terminal industry. In addition to Jawn and Adam meeting with valued partners such as Jay Pandya from IGO and Jon Arnup from TrentGO, they also engaged with current and potential customers and suppliers to showcase AMLab's advancements in quay crane automation. This year's themes resonated deeply with AMLab's mission. A hot topic was the use of 'Digital Twins', with Harry Nguyen from Realtime Business Solutions Pty. Ltd., another innovative Australian company, unveiling their latest solutions for predicting and resolving operational challenges. We firmly believe that the synergy of such technologies and automation will be pivotal in advancing global supply chains in the coming years, and it is great to see Australian companies at the forefront. AMLab will be exhibiting at TOC Europe in June 2025. We look forward to seeing many of our customers, suppliers, and partners in Rotterdam for another great event organised by the team at TOC Worldwide. #TOCAsia #TOCEurope #PSA #Ports #ContainerTerminal #Containers #Innovation #QuayCrane #STSCrane
